C5 x7 wheel change hydroactive suspension

Post by c5c5c5 »

Hi all

This may well be a silly/basic question but any advice appreciated.

I have purchased a second set of wheels (original Citroen 17) to use as winter wheels. These will replace the 19 inch wheels on my C5 exclusive tourer. I have a mobile fitter coming tomorrow to put on the winter tyres and switch the wheels. My question is - is there anything I need to be aware or or tell the fitter regarding jacking the car / changing the wheels? I know I have to set it to the highest suspension height prior to jacking but is there anything else? I read somewhere about removing the LDS cap when lowering the car back down but maybe this is only on a ramp?

Any advice appreciated.

No, not a silly question at all. You only need to be concerned about removing the cap on the LDS tank is when the vehicle will be suspended off the ground with the wheels hanging freely (unsupported).

Have a look here for an explanation:

Bear in mind you may get system fault messages regarding the TPMS as it won't detect the wheel sensors when you swap the wheels over.

Super many thanks. I will set it to the highest setting for the jacking in that case, but not loosen the LDS cap.

I think, you mis understand. it's important to loos the LDS cap, and it's also better, to keep it a bit loose alway's.

Not for normal raising and lowering - it's not required to loosen the cap - only when the car is lifted with the wheels suspended and freely hanging and why the suspension should always be put on high first, so the fluid drawn into the struts does not go crashing back into the tank in an uncontrolled manor under the weight of the vehicle when returned to the ground. If the car is being lifted on a ramp where the wheels are resting on the ramps, then not necessary either.
