citroen C5 X7 - rear height corrector pully snaped and fixed

Post by EssoUnknown »

Hello all.

So a few days ago i saw my car's rear end lowered to min...
i start it up and put suspension on high, it would raise, but if i go down to normal, rear end would go bottoming again.

After checking the rear height corrector sensor i saw the pully snaped and manage to manualy play with sensor to get the car to right height ( wery dangereus as you must crawl your arm under while engine running adjust the height, risking on fast downing)

after 2 days of search i found new pully here in Zagreb for about 6 euro.

New pully installed and car height adjusted by rotating metal pully piece attached on anti-roll bar.
Everything function as intended, check by sitting in boot, it raise back to normal and going down when stand up.
It raise to max and lower to bottom normaly.

I was checking and adjusting height, measuring from top of tire to wheel arc on front and on rear, it was 12cm
When measuring from concrete to wheel arc i get 74.5 cmm on front and end now.
That seems to much for me, the car feels higher then rest of Euro station wagens when on road.
So im not sure is that normal for C5 X7...

I plan to adjust suspension further, lowering it in Lexia but i have never done it, and i'm not sure is there any things i must do in order to do it correctly.

Is anyone have ever done it, please share some info...

P.S. I can adjust rear to lower as i would like to with rear corrector position change. But then i would have to rotate front corrector position to and i would like to avoid that as there is less room to work like in front.
now i leveled rear to be same as front and would like to lower a little with lexia.

Such a cabbage of a post, sorry ;)

If you'd waited for an answer, it may of saved you some grief.... :(

You should never move the clamps for any of the height correctors. These are set and positioned at the factory when the suspension was setup. Any fine tuning is done (only where necessary) using the diagnostic kit and a very specific measuring procedure. If you have now moved the height corrector clamp around the rear axle or the one on the front subframe, then you will have completely altered the suspension setup. You will realistically need to get it reset at a dealers to be honest unless you can return it to the exact position it was in before you moved it.

Also a warning as you have found out - never get underneath one of these cars unless it is independently supported by axle stands or other means - especially when there are suspension issues as the system is 'live' without the engine running and can come crashing down and kill you.

The measurement guide is here - but you will need Diagbox and diagnostic hardware. It won't help you though if the height corrector clamps have been moved too much.

Ok so...

I unplaged battery for 30 min and did a BSI reset after that...

I manage to do new global scan and it alowed me to enter suspension ecu so i was able to change engine type back to what it was.

As soon as i did that i could hear hydro pump engaging and car level it self.
So now hydro suspension is working as intended.

I found front reference height programed in to ecu and use that to calibrate rear corrector.
Its 128 steps front and 114 steps rear.

With Lexia on live hydro suspension info (live ride height shown in steps) i manage to rotate rear clamp untill i reached the desired height.
Mine was 2 steps lower at 112.

When driving i monitor live data and its always reaching the programed height after bump stops so its working normal now i belive.

Car was not been driven for a year and rear corrector rod was broken due to corrosion.
Only bracket, rod and clamp was corroded, i was suprised as no harsh winters here and im 300km from see shore

Now i plan to inspect front rod and corrector to see if it need replacment to.

As for geting under a car while its runing to play with sensor is not recomended for anyone to do as it not could, it will crush you.

I use my method of temporary support to keep safe and only getting my arm under, car raise slower using pump, but droping faster using valve...

And ofc thx 4 answer G.
I was hoping it would get quicker but i had no nerves to sit i must atleast try.
As always i learned something new :)

Not possible. The reference heights are set at the factory and can't be changed, or they wouldn't be 'reference' heights...

Glad you have managed to get it back!

So every C5 X7 is 128 steps at front and 114 at back as programed ??
My problem is that car seems a lot higher then rest of cars...

Its new car for me so i dont know, previous one was C5 mark 2 with same hydro 3+ and it wasnt so up in the air like this one.
It does lower by few cm when turned off and raise normaly but when i sit in it it does feel higher then it maybe need to, like suv almost...

Ill measure one i found on street from concrete to wheel arch just to see is it at least close to mine, hope owner wont bother if he see me ;)

There is a pre-programmed range - but ignore steps as these are calculated values from info entered into Diagbox.

The heights should be calculated from measurements and be within the tolerances after the measuring then compared with these (it's all in the link I gave you).

Reference height (front) : 160 ± 6 mm.
Reference height (rear) : 106 ± 6 mm.

Another question please...

The suspension button in boot not working, i was reading fuse box description but cant find one for that, only for electric boot.
Do you have any clue where to look or to inspec fuses 1 by 1? Could it be something beside fuse?

No, it was probably because most of the knowledgeable people who could answer those questions may be away on holiday. I cannot help, as I have no experience of the C5 X7 cars.
