Citroen C5 Headlamp Problem

Unread post by Stub Mandrel »

I had an intermittent problem with my driver's side headlamp. It would go off for a few minutes, then come on again after going over a bump and be OK for months. Then it went off on a long journey, before coming on again. Now it's gone off again and I can't get it to light. The bulb is fine.

I can't search for a bad contact or sticky relay in the wiring because I can't figure it out.

The Car is a C5 with a 56 plate.

I can't find the fuse! The engine compartment board has this layout:

But the table below that diagram doesn't list a headlamp fuse, or one for any of the other fuse panels. I've looked on several websites.

Which connector supplied the headlamp?

Is there a headlamp relay? If so how do I access it?

All suggestions welcome.

Thanks

The website for the fuse diagram is https://fusesdiagram.com/citroen/fuse-b ... -2008.html

I've also dug out the manual, and it doesn't list headlamp fuses at all!

First of all pop your VIN up (automasked on submission). Wiring diagrams and fuses are vehicle and option-specific. Then I'll have a look for you.

Do very closely check the bulb (consider replacing it). Several years ago I had a tail light that worked most of the time, but occasionally it wouldn't. The filament looked fine (and, when tested with a multi-meter, it tested OK), but when I tapped the bulb a few times I found that the filament was not properly fixed at one end, so it could 'drift' away from the post and stop working.

I pretty sure there is no fuse.
How does the bulb connector look? melted?
I have various repair handbooks and wiring diagrams for C5 mk1, Xantia, XM, Berlingo and C3 mk1.
I have Lexia/Diagbox (Sweden) and Servicebox/sedre

Easy to check by fitting a new bulb.

OK I've sorted it. I just rattled every connector in sight and when I switched on it works... so if it happens again I will work through them logically and (hopefully) see which is the problem.

It will be useful if anything else ever goes:

VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

So you have the standard Halogen headlamps. There are no direct fuses for these, so I would still go back and remove / recheck the fitting of the bulb as they can be a nightmare and replace the bulb with another as you can't always tell a faulty one by looking at it.
