Couldn't get the heating working on my Volvo 265 so every weekend when we went to Whitby the kids all were wrapped in blankets and had hot water bottles.
Eventually discovered that it was pneumatic controls and a pipe had come off the vacuum pump.
Sauna inside after that.

Don't think I would go out without a heater.

My grandparents used Stones ginger wine jars as hot water bottles.

I remember as a child I was given a hot water bottle the same as in Neil's picture every night, but I used to be terrified of burning my toes on the metal ring on the bung. Also the bottle itself was too hot to touch and I remember being very happy when they brought out the furry covered bottles which let the heat out more gently and for a longer time. I still have one of those bottles tucked away for emergency use, last used under a blanket in a cardboaurd box for an injured baby hedgehog!! :-D

We had an iron grate with an oven at the side, the shelf in the oven was cast iron, that used to come out and get put in the bed wrapped in newspaper. :)

I remember copper bed warming pans on a long handle, I have seen electric ones but don't know whether they were made like that or converted.

Hard to find a place for this but as it is historical it can go here.
Also fits in with Neil's brickworks and energy saving methods.
There used to be one of these at Seaham/Blackhall Rocks dumping slag into the sea - IIRC it featured in Get Carter.
We used to drive under it every weekend on our way to and from Whitby. Disappeared about twenty years ago.

I remember those aerial ropeways from my youth driving to visit relatives in Pelton/Fence Houses if I recall right. I see that installation had protective bridges over the road, not sure if that was the case for the aerial lines serving the collieries. I think I may have given that youtuber Tom Scott his debut on the FCF with his ride in the HGV's running on overhead wires project in Germany.

Spotted this in an Antique shop window and it took me back to probably Boxing Day 1965 ish.
Uncle Jim would always come down on Boxing day, and nice to get an extra present, and I remember getting this and enjoying playing with it....Driving Test. A marvel of magnets and little cars, and a big "joystick" to drive around the route. Full working order nothing missing, but a price tag of £30 on the ticket. Find another one...recreate those innocent days of childhood...no too skinflinty for that. If it had been £10 I may have succumbed to a nostalgia purchase.

I had the very same set!! Two cars, or should I say car shells, one red and one white, each with a little horseshoeish shaped spring across the underside to follow the magnet. The spring ends actually poked through the lower door panel and scratched your fingers as you picked up the cars!! Happy days!! :-D

Nice one Mick! I recall the motorbikes now too. There are a few on e-bay, some incomplete round about £15. I suppose retail at the dealers paying for their shop they need to make double.
