Nothing as technical as that Mick, having isolated the consumer unit I have a lead with a 13a plug on each end to connect it to the mains in the garage. This is only the second time we have needed it in probably 7 or 8 years.

Its not much over 2kw, single cylinder diesel electric start, this is only the second time I have used it in anger and its run for about 10 hours on less than a gallon of diesel. I bought it some time ago for about £150 and it was well secondhand then.

It runs the lights, fridge and freezer, TV, and boiler and computer with no problem and the water pump although it struggles a bit when it starts, I even tried it on a 1kw convector heater and it coped.

Chinese of course, you can still buy them new for under £600. Very noisy though. Power came back at about 6.30pm from about 7.00 this morning.

We have our own well Neil.

Here is how the storm is being reported by the Australian national broadcaster:

No wonder a number of you have reported damage!

Thanks for the Australian report, better than ours I think. We were without electricity for more than 12 hours. Then it went off again about midnight but not for very long.

Almost identical to the Beeb and Northern Echo reports.
Ice and snow here but not much really. -0.1⁰C here during the night, 2.2⁰ and rising now.

I hope you don't have Bridgestones on if you do Richard - useless in snow ice on anything other than a flat road! :-D . Just had all my (still newish) Bridgestone tyres removed and replaced with Cross Climate+. Ready for anything now.

...and from November the previous entry here on Gibbo's nicely-titled thread to today March 31st, and the Winter months passed with not a decent sledgingsworth of snow, we have a final flurry just before April comes in.

It will be gone as quickly as it came so an early bit of shutter clickage from me.

Same here, plenty yesterday too but short lived.
Tons of it during the night, mostly hail that woke me up a few times.
Since taking those it came down again while I was making coffee, all gone again now.
Will give the planned gardening a miss again today, it is 4° out there again. It was 34°C on Tuesday in direct sunlight in the garden, 22° in the shade.

No sign of anything white in Hertfordshire, and currently 6°C outside. May have to stick with indoor jobs today. :)

Bright sunshine here but very cold in the wind. Snowy showers just a little further north around the MIdlands I'm told.
