Hello,
I have a problem with my xantia x1 speedometer.
It doesn't show anything before reaching around around 70km\h ,after that its usually working.
My question is what can be the cause of this behavior?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my english.

Re: Xantia speedometer problems
Most likely the solder joints connecting the speedometer to the instrument cluster pcb are cracked. Can be easily fixed by taking the cluster out and resoldering the 4 connections. I have done it before when I had an similar fault (getting stuck around 70km/h). Getting the steering wheel off was the biggest pain (airbag), everything else is fairly quick work (assuming someone hasn't taken everything apart before and broken all the plastics). I used this guide: http://www.schaalbouw.nl/citroen/blog051007.htm

Re: Xantia speedometer problems
If the Xantia is a series 2 the steering wheel does not have to come off (despite what the Haynes manual says!). I have had to replace light bulbs in the instrument panel, and (after I was 'corrected' by this forum) I was able to get the job done with the steering wheel in place.

Re: Xantia speedometer problems
Hi, my 1994 Xantia has the same problem. Speedometer often sticks at between 70 - 80km/h. Sometimes it also goes up to about 70km/h when you're only doing a slow speed, and very occasionally it works correctly. If it was stuck I used to flick the perspex instrument cover and it would come right, but now that doesn't work. The odometer counter works ok. Hopefully with that link I can get into the instrument PCB as the car failed its inspection yesterday because of the speedo.

Re: Xantia speedometer problems
Hi, I got the dash PCB without, fortunately without removing the steering wheel, as it showed no signs of wanting to be removed. Only problem is the pcb is different to the one in the link and I'm trying to determine which are the soldered joints associated with the speedo. Attached photos of the pcb. Thanks.

Re: Xantia speedometer problems
I took the front perspex cover of the dash display and took out the speedo. Sure enough on the pcb there are the soldered pins in question, and one with the crack which I hope is responsible for the problem. Resoldered all four and will reassemble everything.
