Hi, Bob, and to the Forum. I am sorry that you have had such a sorry story to tell. While I personally cannot offer you any advise I can see that one of the Moderators is also online, and probably can give you a lot more help.

Hi and welcome.
Here are the fault descriptors that indicate the likely causes. So some further work is required to determine exact cause.

Re: DS5 Hybrid 4 Gave up had to be towed home
Reading around other forums for information on my own faults I have found that poor or broken connectors/wiring are common with this scenario. First place to go is the 12v service battery and make sure ALL the connections ( positive and negative) are all sound. There are many of them and it will take time and patience to check them all. Make sure the 12v battery is fully charged. If its present voltage is below 12.2 v, as tested in the car just now, that might be encouraging for a simple fix. The more complex faults range over a wide number of potential components so best to check this first and get back to us.

Re: DS5 Hybrid 4 Gave up had to be towed home
Mine developed same problem today. Biggest issue is that the car is in Finland and I'm in Norway. I took my daughter's Picasso to the airport and left the DS for her and now she's out of a car.
I remember that my car did this once in December after getting moist air after a long cold session and now there's been snowing lots in Finland so I suspect a bad contact somewhere.
Did Megliam10's car get in shape and does anybody have tips on where to start spraying contact cleaner. I know about the safety switch on top of the hybrid battery, I will open that and disconnect the 12V power also before going on with any wires.

Re: DS5 Hybrid 4 Gave up had to be towed home
Finally got home and on to issue. The belt had snapped. Old belt was 1120 mm in length and a proper one is 1080 mm. Car has had the cam belt changed couple of years ago and I guess they fitted the wrong aux belt there.

Re: DS5 Hybrid 4 Gave up had to be towed home
Hi, have you had any problems since the new belt was fitted? Mine broke down a week ago and it wouldn't start, i took it to the garage and the belt had snapped. I had a new belt replaced and the car was working fine for 2 days and then came up with "engine fault" and "Hybrid system fault: speed restricted". it still drove but i had to put my foot down to get the car moving. When i got to the garage the belt had snapped off again. He advised me to get a new fan belt tensioner which i am just waiting to be delivered. with the new belt the car worked for a day and now is saying the same warnings as above. Thanks

Hi, I'm a bit late with my reply but I had no problems with the belt after replacement. The mechanic inspected the tensioner wheels and said that he saw no reason to replace them even if the instructions says that they need to be replaced with the belt.

Re: DS5 Hybrid 4 Gave up had to be towed home
Always best to use a kit when replacing the timing belt which will include the tensioner rollers and the water pump. You may not need it now, but it is unlikely the tensioners will last another 10 years and that is to say nothing of the coolant pump condition.
Silly advice given by the garage in my opinion to be honest, because if the coolant pump goes or the tensioners start deteriorating, then you've got to pay out all that labour cost again, and remember that it is the labour that is the majority of the circa £1000 cost of doing the timing. A no-brainer as you'll end up paying the same cost again.
