Notifications on NAC Wave2?

Post by MacSlavko »

Seen this guy on Peugeot forum talking about receiving notifications for incoming SMS and e-mails on his NAC Wave2 in P308.
At an incoming message this circuled "page" flashes green (like when you have a major engine fault). You can't answer the mail/SMS from there, as it serves as notification only.
Tried to set the same in my DS5 with retrofitted NAC Wave2 (upgrade from SMEG+IV2), but sadly to no avail!

Wondering if anyone has those notifications on Citroen cars equipped with NAC Wave2?
It's updated to the latest software (as well as the connected iPhone XS).

Maybe that works only with Android phones (he suggests that) or maybe on Peugeots only?

Any info much apreciated!
Thx

So far as I can tell the system will display email headers and subjects but can't respond to emails.

Also I believe this is for when a smart phone is connected via Bluetooth (so not Android Auto or Apple CarPlay) as far as I can tell, and also depends on the capabilities of the Smartphone.

Yeah, my iPhone is BT connected with the NAC, but still no notifications.
Will test with an Android smartphone when I get to borrow one...
Cheers!

Probably because iPhone implements it's main features via CarPlay. I've had no success in getting any Internet option (as mentioned in the manual) available with an iPhone, and nor has anyone else I've been in contact with so ignored that.

The same does a Samsung phone through AndroidAuto, doesen't it?
As for sharing the Internet from iPhone; that works normaly in my case. Only annoying is you have to set it every time as Internet sharing is iOS protected now and doesn't happen automatically...

Yes, but I was thinking more about excluding CarPlay and AA - by not connected phones via USB cable, and instead just using the bluetooth protocol, as to whether the internet / mobile internet protocol then supports email message notifications as you mentioned?

I'm deciding on whether to add a second USB port at present. As you probably know you can't have CarPlay and your music on USB at the same time - it's one or the other, as CarPlay takes over management of the hub and becomes in charge. A hub won't work either, so the alternative is to add a second USB cable from the second USB port at the rear, which should then provide a second USB source available on the screen.

I haven't decided to try it yet as I can't find a suitable place to locate the second USB port without drilling anywhere and I won't do that. A job for next summer I think.

Oh, I added second USB port right away when I purchased NAC and adapter cables!
Now my USB flash drive is always in the 2nd port and the one under the armrest is free for occasional CarPlay. If it were wireless think I would use it more often...
Would recomand anyone to do the same as the price for secondary USB cable is realy affordable (10€ all togather on AliExpess).

Back to my topic: Internet sharing from iPhone is always via BT/WiFi only (not via cable so no CarPlay/AndroidAuto engaged) and NAC is connected to Internet but still no e-mail / SMS notiffications.
In fact; I don't even have that option to set in Telephone menu on NAC. The guy in Peugeot forum mentioned he has a tab with e-mail to set on his Wave2, but that's a P3008. It seems I don't even have that option on my DS5. Thought someone on any Citroen / DS car might have it though?

I'll try and take a look tomorrow if I can - so you're looking to see if there are SMS notifications and / or possible email notifications anywhere on bluetooth only connection - if I'm correct.

So I have SMS messages coming through as you can see and an email setting showing up - but I don't get any emails showing - so it may be to do with data settings and whether you allow mobile data for certain apps and whether Low Data mode is on or not, or even if you have a WiFi hot spot setup via your mobile or not.

Message 2.jpg

However it doesn't bother me, as I get hundreds a day, so would prefer them not to come through!

But if it's important, there is an app that can do this:

Thanks a lot for your input!
Now, the e-Mail and Messages part in Telephone settings is absent in my DS5! Wonder if it could be configured with Diagbox?
From which car you’ve taken these photos?
I assume it was a Wave2 as well? Also paired with an iPhone or Android phone?

Hi

It's from my 2020 C3 Aircross with NAC Wave 2 Digital Connected Nav running latest system software with onboard WiFi and also separate independent telematic unit for Assistance and SOS calling.

I paired it with Bluetooth only (as I've only just got a new iPhone XS Max yesterday) and had not connected it via Bluetooth until I went out today to do this for you. So iPhone connected.

There won't be anything in Diagbox you can do as these are secured and protected units as far as I can see and there are no settings like this that can be configured anyway from what I've seen - functionality is pre-built into the units (probably the reason why there are so many versions :-D )

Thank you Marc for this valuable information!
Now, the iPhone thing is excluded, since it works for you, but not for me. Something else must be the reason for the absence of Messages and e-Mail settings on my NAC...
The only difference that comes to my mind are Connected Services (not available in my country), but I don't see what should personal SMS and e-Mails got anything to do with TomTom Servioces?
They certainly don't go through TomTom servers but are directly transferred from a connected moblie phone (I suppose).
Nor should they have anything to do with somewhat older BSI (my DS5 is mid 2105 and retrofitted NAC is 06/2018).
Also the source of Internet connection shouldn't make any difference (my NAC is connected through iPhone) as long as Internet connections is active and stable.

So as much as I'd like to, I really can't firuge this out! And it's doing my head in...
Anyway, thanks for your input! Really appreciate the effort!

Re: Notifications on NAC Wave2?

BSI could be a factor as the DS5 only had the early implementation of these units (wave 1 I think) on their last run of production.

Also, the Connected NAV units are just that - having WiFi on board to connect to the services you subscribe to and to do over the air updates of firmware and maps (not really practical though).

You are right regarding connected services regarding email and SMS - these have nothing to do with the 'Connected Services' for the NAC. These only concern the subscription services like real time traffic, speed cameras and
  • TomTom services
  • Real time traffic news
  • Parking prices and availability
  • Weather forecast on your journey
  • Voice control supported
  • Fuel prices at petrol stations
  • Quick search for addresses and points of interest
  • Danger zone warnings
So has to be something else outside of Tom Tom as these must be dependent on the phone, the phone's software, the bluetooth profile, and the head unit hardware / software I suspect.

What iPhone do you have incidentally?
