Hi Rhothgar, i've had a look for the receipt for the hose but i cant find it (unusual as i always keep car part receipts, or at least i thought i did!) I'm fairly certain i paid around £98.00 for it so i'd be looking for £45.oo to a forum member, it will be a lot more if it ever goes on Ebay. I also have a matrix if you need one but i think they are still quite easy to get hold of, if you want i'll dig them out & upload a few pics but if you haven't already seen i posted the odd pic here viewtopic.php?t=67638 .

For the record i bought the pipe(s) because my heater matrix was blocked (hence i also have a matrix going spare) but thankfully i got my pipe off without breaking it and i managed to back flush it @ the inlet/outlet pipes although getting the pipes to reconnect to the matrix outlets was an absolute mare as the seals swelled up and it took 2 days of persuasion and cursing to get the pipes reconnected and i gave it a LOT of stick using a 3' piece of 3"x2" levered against the top of the car's engine. I wanted to reuse the original o rings but ended up fitting slightly thinner o rings & that worked. The bag that contains the new pipe that i have is opened but only to inspect the o rings fitted on that, they should still be in place (i'll check if required) and have not been near a car.

Let me know if you want any pics, the parts are packed away & will take a bit of digging out but i've spent the evening replacing the brushes on my washing machine which meant r/r the motor....so now i'm off to bed!
Music keeps me going.

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly. No offence but that's a bit rich for me at the moment. I feel your pain too at losing £53 too!

I am not convinced mine needs replacing and I am nervous about removing it to inspect. Not 100% committed to replacing the heater matrix though I already have one on order which should arrive today or tomorrow. Not sure seeing a shiny new matrix will make the decision as to whether to fit it before the head goes back on any easier.

I, too, seem to remember having fun with Sylv's ZX. Makes me wonder if the O-rings failed on hers and not the new matrix I fitted. Could always use pipe jointing lube to aid reconnection.

Leave it with me to look at what condition mine is truly in. It just seems a good idea to change whilst it's all apart. I've also got a lot going on personally at the moment with a mother at end-of-life care so most days I don't know whether I am coming or going. Tough times!

Don't be too concerned about the price, i think as every one knows changing the matrix on one of these is a nightmare of a job, the best thing to do is see if you do actually need the pipes when it comes to it, you may get yours off/on in one piece, if not then give me a shout and we'll come to some sort of arrangement on the price, i may in fact ask for a donation to a particular charity instead (as long as i can figure out how to send you a link for it) which as long as it's a respectable amount may work out better for us both as long as your not going to be in a rush for the pipe when you realise you need it, anyway, lets see if you actually need it first.

I've changed a matrix on a ZX myself once, that was not a nice job! it was a long time ago and the job still haunts me.

Unless someone else wants it it's not going anywhere soon so get back to me if & when ready, Having lost someone i love dearly to breast cancer on 05/09/21 i totally understand there are far more important things to deal with.

So sorry to hear of your loss.

It feels that there is a lot of sadness around at the moment.

I would need it pretty sharpish once I know because my mate has me under pressure to get the car sorted. I do hope to get up there sometime this week and check the pipe but once it comes off it sounds like it's a nail in the coffin and the job then has to be done.

Just wondering if new o-rings would enable it to be readily reconnected I know it is a beast to get back on but I think I'll use general PVCu pipework lubricant. I may have already said this. Apologies if I have mentioned it already.

I've found that hear helps the pipes removal.. By that I mean warm coolant but obviously you can't with only half an engine. I did however sucessufly ease them out with a long screw. Driver behind the L bow to aid extraction. But I did also have one once completely disintegrate in my efforts. I think there's a couple of those joints in my hose pile but the. Hoses. May be different but I've heard people use them and join their hoses to the. Replaced L bow..

Hi Quintet.

I did manage to remove the pipe intact but it was a gargantuan struggle.

My mate says I should really replace it as yours will be much more recently produced than the 27 year old one on the car.

I am thinking of reusing presently to be fair as I don't want to put you out unnecessarily. Are you able to tell me what size and thickness the o-rings are that come with the pipe? The hard plastic female bits are approx. 27mm external diameter (internally where I think the o-ring sits) and the next step in the plastic measures 23mm. approx. I think the o-rings abut that interface where the size changes.

The thickness of the O ring(s) is 3mm, 27mm outside diameter & approx 21.5mm inside diameter, the pipe outlets start at 23mm and go down to about 22.5mm with a slight chamfer on the end, please note these measurements were taken using an old vernier gauge.

This curved clip is something i ordered at the time but it wasn't used/required. Sorry it's kinda hard to see but i'd rather not take it out of it's original packaging unless i have to.

The o ring is just a tiny bit bigger than a 2p so that should give you a general idea of size.

Quintet.

Many, many thanks for that. I have just logged on to check if the matrix does require replacing on the green one. I can't recall if it had a problem. I think it did but it is so long since I used it I need to check. I am pretty convinced it was leaking.

I am about to go up to my mates to replace it today. Wish I could have gotten out the door earlier.

I will check the pipe contours when I am up there.

That clip is no needed with that pipe connection I believe as the metal spring clip is what holds it in place on mine. I believe it is an either/or situation? I may be wrong of course.

Your measurements are extremely close to mine so if I do choose to go with existing pipe for now at least I can replace those.

Many thanks again for your kind help with this. I hope I have not put you out in any way.

Can you let me know if you still want this as someone else is now after it, if you want to make me an offer for it then you can PM me if your more comfortable doing that but it will have to be a realistic price (bearing in mind what i've already asked for it).

For the record it's someone else on here that wants it and theirs is actually broken so they'll want it fairly quickly i presume.

Hi quintet

For some reason, my last two emails to you are still showing as in the Outbox even though I have sufficient capacity for sending and receiving.

So here is my response duplicated for your information:-
