Mk1/2 C5 rear suspension hyraulic pipes

Post by aramsay »

I looking for an offside main hydraulic pipe for the rear of my C5....the large bore metal one that goes
between the centre shpere and susp.-arm sphere.

I managed to get a new nearside one from Citroen, but the offside one is no longer available....p/n: 5270.QQ

There is a German firm that appears to make conversion pipes / adapters to replace original pattern
Citroen stuff. They are called.... Bremsleitungen-Online

They list a 5270.QQ.....I have requested a photo, but I think that it is based on using kunifer-type
brake pipe with a couple of special adapter ends. As I say, I am awaiting more details, but the diameter/bore looks a lot smaller than the OEM pipe.

Do you think there would be an issue with having the nearside with original (Citroen) bore/dia., while the
offside with this smaller (German) bore/dia. ?

Hi Aramsay,
First off, sorry unable to help. But hope you won't mind me asking why you need one, is it down to corrosion or did you need to take it off for some work?
Reason I'm asking is that I need to change the seals (nearside ram) and have been unable to undo the pipe. I've just managed to get hold of a Metrinch spanner and hoping that might shift pipe end-nut. I was considering cutting the pipe to fit a socket on, but of course, I'd need a replacement pipe first...
Sorry again, for butting in,
Mark

Mark.....sorry, only just seen this....

I'm changing my pipes due to corrosion....the nearside actually burst (at 1a.m. on the Dumfries by-pass),
and the offside looks as if it will go same way soon. Hence why I hope to put new pipes on both sides.

Not sure what type of Metrinch spanner you have, but I'd recommend something like a SnapOn flare nut spanner.....hex sides, but with an open end for going over the pipe. I think it will be very tight, and you
might need to go the route of cutting the pipe and getting a hex socket (not multi-point) over the union. If you
have a Hydractive 3+ car with a centre sphere, at least the nearside pipe is still available from Citroen....p/n: 5270QS....£71+VAT. Double check you can get it before you cut........

Good luck !

I'm surprised there hasn't been more comment about my post.

In the 2 weeks since my first post, it would seem that there does not exist such a thing as a "good" 2nd hand hydraulic pipe. The offside (5270QQ) just doesn't seem to exist new, and I have even tried phoning Citroen dealers in France, and contacting Citroen specialists in Holland and Poland.......nowt !

Does no-one know of an alternative solution ?

You're not going to believe this but.... I think I have one in my C5 spares box!
I've defo got something but I'm not sure which side it's for. I bought both sides back in 2018 but only used one of them and I'm fairly sure it was the N/S I used.

Let me check at the weekend... and you'll have to cross my palm with a lot of beer tokens to give it up as I still have three C5's to maintain :rofl2:

just noticed your post above, mines a H3+ pipe which I guess is how I found one at the time!
The only other option is to see if eurocarcare.net can get the larger bore pipe (4.5mm) back in stock. you will need 20mm of good pipe to connect to which may be difficult to find at the back...

Interested to see how you get on....

that's the issue Marc... no one can supply the correctly formed ends for the rams... best you can do is to compression joint in a pipe using an original end. This is not possible if the last 20mm is rusty. I guess you could buy the H3+ new pipe just for the ends and compression joint to them...

I've got a couple of new/old stock pipes on the shelf, they're Citroen but I have no idea for what because the part numbers have been rubbed out on the packs.

If anyone has pics and dimensions for the needed pipes and they match what I have they can have them for the price of the postage.
