Citroen C4 2006 / Fob key Replacement

Post by PierRouva »

Hi... I just bought a C4 made on 04/2006, and it has one key without any remote for locking doors. I have found from ebay replacement FOB but I need the original key part number in order to see whether are compatible with my car... Anybody had same experience? Please Help...

Which ones are you looking at on ebay?
You will want one that uses ASK frequency & has a VA2 key blade.
When you say part number are you talking about the numbers written on the key itself or the actual Citroen part number? The actual Citroen part number probably wont help with ebay keys, i just tried a couple of original Citroen number s7they don return any results.

Hi there, and thanks for your response.. the ones i found do not refer to ASK frequency but only in Mhz frequencies. I am putting down the links and if you feel any of those will do the job please advise.. One of them is asking me about the part number of the original FOB key which I don't have...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353531540202 ... nl%3Dmkcid

the seller advised me for this that is suitable for C4 2006

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184876735661 ... nl%3Dmkcid

this one also the seller advised me for this that is suitable for C4 2006

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264716248338 ... nl%3Dmkcid

the seller for this one is asking me the part number of the original FOB key

Please advise what do you think... Thank you....

The first 2 links both show they are ASK, its in the title.
The first 2 look like the best bets.

Thank you. So if I buy one of those I will need to cut the key and a computer to program the remote? Do I need anything else as I have only the key without remote...

Thank you so much for your help..

You also need your 4 digit security code found on this card.
If you dont have it you can buy it from the dealer with proof of ownership etc.

Thank you again for your quick response. The previous owner did not give me any security code, and to my surprise the dealer has asked me an obscene amount which I think is pure extortion. Is there any other way I can retrieve this code without going through the dealer.

Thanking you in advance.

There are various pieces of kit that can extract the code in seconds (if you have a working key) from the car that auto locksmiths use but I imagine they cost more than the dealer wants to charge you to buy the code.
Have you had a quote from an auto locksmith to do the complete job

It is usually about £25 here although some dealers don't charge anything.
If asked they will also supply lots of other details about the car for the same cost.

The price they asked me to pay for the security code is 120 euros. I regret that I did not asked them to give the answer in writing... that is why I will try to find the code by myself through the Diagbox software, as I strongly believe is extortion, for what they asked me to pay.

Wow  are you sure that wasnt a quote to supply & program a new key
Thats a ridiculous amount for something that costs them nothing but around 90 seconds work.
Well I take that back, you could buy a device to extract the pin code from the car for the same price the dealer is charging for the code... and have a bit of change.
Unfortunately Diagbox or Lexia were never enabled to read the security code from the memory.

I have asked twice the question if this is a quote for new key with remote and she said in a very bad manner, this is only for the security code... Go figure. I was hoping I could get it via ODB II socket and using Diagbox... I am very disappointed by the dealers abusing the brand of Citroen. Renault dealers are nothing like this. Do you know any software that could help me doing this...

I would be inclined (assuming this was a Citroen dealership) to contact your country Citroen head office, ask them for the code, and explain WHY you are asking THEM, rather than the local dealership. You might find you get a sympathetic response, and maybe the code for free (as a goodwill gesture).

It is possible that a Peugeot dealer may be able to provide it for a more reasonable sum.
