3008 [2012] disconnecting pop up display so it doesn't open and install android auto media display in centre unit?

Post by Peugeot20123008 »

Hi,
My 2012 Peugeot 3008 myway display has started to have an issue opening and closing when I start the car...it's jerky and and sometimes doesn't open all the way and turn on. I have to manually press the button or turn the car off and on again.. soon i think it's going to die completely, then i can't see radio settings etc.
I have read this is due to the cogs in the mechanism wearing away. I have done some google searches and there is an option of replacing the whole unit I believe, they are for sale on ebay.

However it would be nice to use this opportunity to install a media display in the centre unit with android auto. I have seen some videos on youtube of media centres in Peugeot 3008 and they look smart.

I don't need it to have in built satnav as I can use android auto which will keep the price down.

Does anyone know what size screen I should be looking for? and does anyone have any recommendations of a unit? £400ish?

Lastly, has anyone had any issues when installing the unit? errors etc? (I will however get a garage to do it for me)

Thanks

It’s not something we can really help with as we only support official systems and not aftermarket units.

Be aware you will very likely lose some functionality like parking assistance visuals and other info if replacing the unit.

Thanks Marc,
I have now booked the car into a garage that specialises in car audio. They are very busy though, so its not getting fitted until October..
As far as I'm aware I shouldn't loose anything in specific, sensors should still work, the sensor display will be replaced with a reversing camera that they will fit for me, so that should be good. All steering wheel functions should still work as well, and the pop up display will be disconnected. They are a reputable garage that know what they are doing on the audio side of things, so I feel confident that they should (hopefully..!) do a good job.
I'll update once it's been fitted,

I bought a Pioneer SPH-DA160DAB 6.8" in the end for £330...costing me £200 to have it fitted, that cost includes steering wheel/sensor connections etc. Expensive, but should be nice once set up.

Thanks again

Do come back with an update, I know some of the higher end systems can display some additional vehicle data, but I suspected as much that they would have to fit an aftermarket camera etc.

Fingers crossed you end up with everything you wanted. :-D

Hi,
The head unit has been fitted successfully. All seems to be working ok. Enjoying having Android auto, makes life easier. Google maps works well, and Bluetooth connects instantly, nice not to have fiddle around with my Bluetooth dongle for music anymore.

The only small changes that I have noticed are, no initial bleep sound when I put the car into reverse (parking sensor bleeps still working, although different tone) and no bleeping sounds when a seatbelt is unplugged when driving. Also there is no notification when wipers are on auto (this used to be displayed on the pop up display).

Track change, volume, from steering wheel controls working ok. Audio can now go louder it seems. DAB radio worked without the need for aerial to be replaced (used the included one and stuck to windscreen)

Happy with the result and it looks great, feels like a good upgrade.
Thanks,
