C5X7 Can't code VIN in RD45

Post by CVR »

I have a 2009 C5X7 VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
It came original with an RD4 radio. I stumbled on an RD45 radio. So plan to upgrade with this.

I have a Lexia tester, with lexia sw running on a win7.

I've run run in to the following challenges.

1. I can't seem to code the radio with the cars VIN. lexia won't recognise it, and it only returns ? in the status dialog. It reads the unit OK, just don't want to communicate with it.
I only have RD4 or RT4 option.
Is it my sw version of lexia, which is to old?

2. According to several post here and in other forums, the display needs to support the RD45 unit.
How do I check the display version, and what version fits an RD45?
and which cars use this display, or is it possible to update the display fw to handle an RD45 if necessary?

Thank's for a good forum.

The C5 X7 with RD4 usually comes with the EMF-C screen - it just depends on the software level IIRC. Your EMF-C screen needs to have at least software V72.2 to be compatible or higher. It should be shown on the back label of the screen.

Make sure you follow the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure before disconnecting the screen as this unit is live and can easily be damaged if you remove the screen power source without disconnecting the battery negative first.

What version of Diagbox are you using?

Hello Marc

It seems I have at least one problem.

Screen is fw 71.3 So screen is no god:-(

The Diagbox is 7.43

I am not sure what revision is on the lexia tester itself. It's from 2014

Is it possible to find a later version diagbox, without the trouble with virtual machine etc. Or should I just go and find a more resent tester and laptop?
Currently running an old ASUS 3E intel atom. But it has worked nicely.

Is it possible to update the fw in the screen, or is it not worth the trouble?

Challenge here is that I live in Denmark, and the scrappers think their parts are made of gold. Typically a display is tried sold for above 80 quid.

Lot of questions I know, but hope some of them can be clarified.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, so first thing I would do is get your Diagbox updated to 7.58 first, and then if that fails try 7.62, but no higher than this. There were lots of glitches in earlier versions of Diagbox, so try again after the upgrade.

Looking further, I have seen some screens for Peugeot with the same software version as you have (71.3) that are working with the Bluetooth, so you may be lucky. [-o<

See how you get on first after the DB upgrade.

Update:
I ended up having to upgrade my PP2000 to DIAGBOX via virtual machine aso. New lexia unit and all.
So now running 9.68 which should be the most stable and reliable at the moment.

I can read the car, code the correct VIN number in the radiom, and see a lot more than with previous Lexia application.

However: I can't get the radio properly configured to the car. When running diagnostic, it comes up with "Unknown computer" for the radio??!
When looking in the various menus, it should be possible to configure the car to an RD45 radio. Since it has completely separate install menus for RD4 and RD45.
However it can't complete it, buty comes up with a fail.

I can get the normal functions to work on the radio, but I can't get access to the bluetooth menu on the screen. I can't also configure the radio in terms of equipment present, but still no bluetooth?!

Is it due to the firmware in the display being too old, or maybe car and radio are not compatible in terms of firmware? or?

Another strange thing is this:
The car has hydractive suspension. Type ECOtech something. When performing all over diagnostic, DIAGBOX returns fault on the following not related to radio.

On the suspension it flags an error about missing speed signal in the system? However it works as it should, and also in terms of the max speed shut off?!

There should be a headlight height corrector module located under battery or Left headlight.
System reports "no communication" with this unit.

Now I tried to locate it to check connections aso. But I can't find it?
Had the battery, tray and headlamp removed. No unit?!

Are these errors simply of the "Ghost" type. Meaning they are due to glitch with diagbox, and the car does not have these fuinctions. Or am I missing something?

Bonus info
Car has webasto heater fitted in left wing.
I have no errorcodes or lamps lit.

Thanks in advance CVR

Ignore the suspension error - suspension ECOtech is the name for the 4 Cylinder-engine suspension ECU - it's perfectly normal and so is the speed anomaly, as that is always thrown up when interrogating the suspension ECU. It is a ghost fault.

You may want to look at the multi-function display as this has the ECU controller inside it and directly controls the Head Unit on the RD4/5 systems. You need to have the correct version though to support the RD45's Bluetooth function.

OK. I will have a look for a higher version screen.

One question remains.
The scan says "No communication" with the headlight level corrector.
As I understand it, the car should have one, since it's with hydraulic suspension.
However I can't physically locate the module?
It is supposed to be located under the battery or headlamp. But nothing there except the webasto heater. I had the battery, tray and light removed, along with the bumper in that side.
The lamps has level correctors fitted, but I can't locate the box. is it integrated in the suspension control on that year or?

The unit is just a small device like a joystick attached to the headlamp that does the levelling:

No, that's only fitted on models with Xenon Directional Headlamps, which you don't have.

Okay.
Just odd it showed up in the diagnostic screen.
I understood it as it was fitted to all cars with the hydraulic suspension?

Is it a real fault then, or just a Diagbox hickup?

Sorry for the maybe stupid questions

The dynamic beam corrector isn't shown as a part from your VIN, and from what I can see, the headlamp manual adjustment system consists of the 2 adjustment motors (one in each headlamp) and the manual adjustment switch on the dash.

Although I know there are some inconsistencies over these systems, so with hydraulic suspension, it may use the body height corrector data to adjust them if you don't have the manual adjustment switch on the dash - which may be for the metallic sprung versions without directional lighting.

As long as they work though... Just put the headlamps on against a wall at night and sit in the boot see if the beams move up or down according to the weight, (though you may need some friends or family members to assist :-D

OK. I do not have the manual adjuster, so it has to be some form of glitch.

Thanks for info and patience.

I finally got the RD45 unit to work. Automated programming point in my version of diagbox did not work.
Have to enable old type separate bluetooth module, in order to activate menus on the EMF screen. But then it worked.

Thanks for help and info

You can't automatically programme anything without a PSA account and connection to their servers. You can only manually telecode some options depending on ECU and DB version.
