206 HDi front strut removal - Urgent

Unread post by Michel »

Could one or more of you lovely folk please tell me if the pinch bolt on a 206 strut is meant to come out, or we are just supposed to lever the clamp open a little..

Brother has his in bits at the moment to replace struts and that bolt - pictured, is stuck fast. Do we get the BFO hammer out, or do we lever the clamp apart a bit?

Thanks!

According to the info I have refitting the strut:
  • When refitting the pivot on the lower arm:
  • Ensure that the boot protecting the ball joint is in good condition (no cuts on the boot and securing clip present)
  • Clean the ball joint taper, move the boot from the top to the bottom so that it regains its flexibility, position the boot in the fully extended position
  • Engage the lower arm ball joint in the pivot, without forgetting the ball joint protector which must be positioned correctly (indexer )
  • Fit the ball-joint securing bolt and a new nut.

The boss (3) enables correct angular positioning by engaging in the slot (4).
The boss (5) serves as a stop.

Tighten:
  • The front hub carrier clamp fixing
  • The steering ball joint nut
  • The shock absorber to body mounting

It looks like it if it requires replacing with a new one on refitting.

Is this the facelifted 2009+ model?

No, this is a 206 Marc, 05 plate, 90bhp HDi (though it has a remap and flies)

Give me 10 minutes or so and I'll put something up on the whole procedure for you.

As your pic doesn't show the bosses as per Marcs instructions you may find there is a groove that the bolt locates in. Not exactly the same but on my C4 Coupe I tried the hammer approach (though not one of the lump variety) and it wouldn't budge. I got a spanner on the bolt head, then used a hammer on the spanner (poor mans rattle gun) to get it moving. I could have sworn in was threaded in with the nut being used as a locking nut......but no....just crap, rust, rust and more crap.

Notice the BX is still top the list but sadly gone

Brilliant, thanks for the procedure Marc, and Pete for the rust and crap hint - I think that's what could be the problem
