Posted that over on the energy matters thread on Monday Mick,
https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... 85#p694385

The Hydrogen Strategy was released by UK government just yesterday, unsurprisingly with other news events never got any media coverage, but I hope Dave does a bit of analysis of it.

I'm clearly losing the plot!! For some reason I got this thread and my email mixed up in my mind and posted Dave's video here instead of adding it to my daughter's email I was writing. #-o #-o I think I'd better find my pills :-D

Could what he said be summarised in a couple of sentences?

Hydrogen combustion engines produce NOx emissions from Nitrogen in the "Air" element, they are inefficient with energy lost through heat generated by combustion, and H2, however it is produced consumes a vast amount of energy in its creation, transportation and storage.

Granted with the right equipment you can dispense it at the final dispenser into a 700 psi tank in maybe 25 minutes less, than recharging a lithium-ion battery. One advantage, there is water water everywhere to make it from and the fuel store ie the on-board tank quite probably could have limitless refill cycles without degradation.

I wonder if the development of the hydrogen combustion engine, if indeed it gets anywhere, may end up attempting to develop a combustion system using pure oxygen in a separate on board tank instead of air for the combustion of Hydrogen.

Still ludicrously inefficient compared to a fuel cell and electric motor, or a Li-ion Battery and an electric motor.

Another possible use of Hydrogen is as an additive to the petrol in the same way as you can have a nitrous injection system. I am looking into the possibility of adding a Hydrogen generator of the HHO type to my Mazda to supplement the petrol. This is by no means a green solution but it is greener than pure petrol since the net effect is to decrease your petrol consumption by 25-30% thereby increasing your mpg by a similar ratio. The emissions are reduced simply because you are burning less fossil fuel which is at least a small step in the right direction. This is the general idea that I am referring to: :)

I know people might think I have put this in the wrong thread, but look at what The Accountant is driving first. This is from the film "Drive Angry".

Didn't take too long to decide that the HHO is not a great idea! :-D

Had to look up "Drive Angry"
Recognised Nicholas Cage but never heard of William Fichtner .

That other one is too shouty and too American.
