Rear passenger door widow removal help

Post by Datadogie »

C4 Picasso 2010
OK so I have the panel off. (Loads of info out there for the actuators)
But the inner window seal thingajimmy looks as if it has to come off to make way for the catches at the bottom off the glass. Or do they. they look like they have been pop riveted on.

They are, and have to be drifted out to remove that trim panel as part of the window removal procedure.

When you say drifted do you mean hammer and chisel? Then riveted back in afterwards?

They are usually carefully drilled out, but care should be taken as you only want to use a drill bit no bigger than the shank size. Just enough to be able to drill through the part of the shank at the rivet head, so that can be removed and the shank knocked out. That way you won’t make the river hole larger, which will affect or weaken the attached part when reattaching if the hole is too big. You may need to use appropriate self tappers when reattaching if you can’t put new rivets in, but make sure they are not too long or you may damage the glass behind.

Thought as much. Just been to my auto parts store for new plastic clips as I managed to break a couple of the little buggers. (The guy on YouTube popped his out so easy. You would have thought he had smaller clips in.) Also bought a cheap pop riveter as I will hardly ever use it again and didn't think it was worthwhile buying an expensive one. Lets hope it doesn't bite me.

Ended up grinding them off. Luckily these panel pins are the right size. Anyway the window is now in and everything back together.
