Can't reset Average Fuel Consumption and others

Post by solar21 »

Hi. I've bought Berlingo 1,6 HDI Multispace 2011 and i've found some little problem.
I can't reset Average fuel consumption/Distans travelled/Average speed on the middle display - Distans travelled is 9999, average fuel is still 7 liters. It's the simplest display, Monochrome Screen A in instruction. I can change all five informations pressing the button at the end of the wiper stalk, so the button is OK, but when i press it down for 10 or even 30 sec, nothing happens.
I've visited a few car mechanics, but without success. I've disconnected car battery for the night, but it didn't help.
Any ideas?

This is likely to be the instantaneous information so that's never reset. You only reset your distance recorder 1 or 2 depending on how many you have. But the instantaneous info is just that - so can't be reset. I'll have another look to make sure though....

...ok, are you sure you don't need to press the right side button on the instrument cluster?

AS it says - pressing briefly alternates the display and holding it down resets it.

This's not what I mean. Not trip recorder but trip computer in the central console.

And the button at the end of the wiper stalk.

And i can't make this part "last trip computer zero reset". As it's said, i should press this button for a few seconds to reset average consumption and distance but in my case it doesn't work.

I have different manuals to the one you have - for the year and model you have stated, so that may not be the correct one. I see you have got it from somewhere else..... there are multiple modles and versions of the Berlingo - so that is likely not the one.

Pop your VIN up and I can locate the correct manual directly from Citroen.

Ok, so after checking a hundred variations - I've come to the conclusion you don't have this option.

Your VIN indicates a Mono Radio Tuner, no cruise control and no Computer fitted (so no trip computer) which is why you can't reset anything. It's a very basic trim level.

But that's almost impossible. :)
There's trip computer - i can switch 5 values from the manual, Range to tank and Current fuel consumption work normally, Trip Distance is stuck at 9999, not returning to 0 (so is it usable for 9999 km only?), both Trip Distance and Average f.c. have this small "lollypop" icon on display which marks values i can reset.

Even authorized car service said that i should be able to reset this values...

That shows the distance travelled since the last reset - and in the picture above it has already been reset, so is showing 0 KM. Is that photo from your vehicle and when you start driving it should increase until you reset it again. You vehicle specification clearly states no Computer function option installed.

Yes i know that, it should work this way. This photo is from the web, in my car display shows 9999 since the begining (since i've bought it). I can post real photos after sunday.

Ok, next question - have you changed the radio / head unit or screen?

Sorry for delay.
I don't know anything about changing radio etc. I've bought this car two months ago and only this 'reset' feature makes any problem.

The reason I asked is because changing the radio can upset the system as these are very integrated into the vehicle's systems. If not, then I can't answer your question and if the dealer is also stumped, I would suggest that they contact Citroen in France on their Tech support helpline to find the answer.

All I can tell you is that the factory specifications for your vehicle says "no computer" - which in this case refers to the trip computer functions. That would be my only answer - and if a previous owner tried to re-configure the unit to display the info with a screen and head unit that does not have the option, then this could be one reason why it 'appears' to be malfunctioning, when it just doesn't have the capability.

Shouldn't it be possible to reset with LEXIA?

Not really - and as the dealership are also stumped, I would expected them to check for faults.

It looks you're right. The car was probably retrofitted (is this right word?).
According to VIN there should not be cruise control or speed limiter also. But there are both. Cruise control works normally, speed limiter doesn't (dotted line blinks and i can't set speed limit). Car mechanic found that gas pedal is different than should be (according to VIN). When he has put the right pedal (without cc/sl sensors) computer and car go mad - gas pedal didn't work at all or engine didn't exceed 3000 rpm.
Reset BSI didn't help. Mechanic said that MAYBE hard reset and reprogramming BSI from zero will help.

Yep - that's what has happened.

If the previous person has retrofitted an OEM system with cruise / limiter options - it won't always work depending on engine ECU and vehicle - some can be retrofitted without any issues. It normally involves checking that the dual-function brake switch is fitted, adding the correct cruise stalk to the Comms unit in the steering wheel and programming the system with Lexia / Diagbox.

Depending on engine, vehicles could be fitted with either a throttle cable from accelerator to TPS in the engine bay, or have a it all integrated into the accelerator (fly by wire). These are very specific to the vehicle and if the incorrect parts are fitted it can cause problems with other systems.

In some vehicles the limiter function was not available at all - just cruise - so I suspect they have even tried to fit the wrong cruise stalk!

Resetting the BSI won't make any difference, the Engine ECU needs configuring to disable the cruise control option (as it was originally supposed to be) if you want to restore it to original.

When the car revs are limited to 3000 that is the engine ECU going into back up mode because of a fault. It is hard to know what the previous person has done at this stage!
