2012 1.6hdi P0405 fault egr changed

Post by 4d1lr »

Hi peeps, I'm having a problem with my car going into limp mode with p0405 have changed the egr valve and still no joy this code happened after the egr valve had been changed prior to that I was getting p3007. Any help would be appreciated. Also where can I get a proper scan tool/software for Peugoet. Is it the Planet or diagbox I need. Thanks

I think you do actually need to do some further investigation as P0405 relates to the Electric EGR valve repeat signal fault: Copy voltage too low. So there is the possibility of the supply voltage or depending on your engine may need some terminal boxes to properly troubleshoot and eliminate certain components / connections.

If you have the VIN, pop that up (automasked on post submission) that would help determine the exact engine and ECU you have.

Ok, so you actually have a 2011 model (built 7th September 2011), so was a late registered vehicle with 1.6 HDi 92 (DV6DTED) engine and Bosch Injection.

So ignore the preovious fault - as you can see it is slightly different for this vehicle. In your case, the P0405 Fault states:
Fault Code: P0405
Description of Fault: Measurement of the position of the EGR valve: Open circuit or short circuit to earth. Voltage less than 0.3 V for 500 ms
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:Forced regeneration via the Diagnostic tool is prohibited whilst this fault is active. Management Info Light is also on when fault is active.
Symptoms:
  • Noise
  • Slightly higher fuel consumption
  • Smoke from the exhaust
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine (Vehicle equipped with "stop and start")
Suspect Areas:
  • Exhaust gas recycling valve
  • Electrical harness
  • Connectors
So I would be checking the electrical side, as the EGR is not getting enough voltage. Check the electrical connections to the EGR - especially the pins in the connector to make sure they are not loose.

Thank you very much for your reply. Do you recommend using a electrical cleaner. I also change the sensor near the actuator. Seems like a possible problem with the harness or plugs.

Did you fit a new genuine valve, or a used or aftermarket part? It is possible that the valve is not compatible.
