Whenever I work on stuff now I have completely rejected buying those boxes of disposable gloves. I have a pair similar to yours for a couple of quid from tool station and they have lasted ages. MOT to MOT and all sorts inbetween.

I find them great with cloth on the back of the glove my hands get less sweaty and I soon tear the disposable ones .... I even wash these after a few jobs

I've never worn gloves for mechanic's work, only for the garden. :)

Me too, I still use it occasionally but its gone like water. I wear rubber/plastic gloves for oil changes much easier to get your hands clean but mostly I wear those vinyl front fabric back ones, the only problem is if you do get oil on them it goes right through, they do wash well though - they don't stop bramble thorns though. :!:

100% with you on this one Gibbo, only wear a glove for removing sump plugs, other than that I prefer the sensitivity of skin for spannering. Big fan of Swarfega for much domestic stain removing as well as hand cleaning as intended!! Many shirts have been saved from the bin with judicious application of Swarfega before washing!! :-D

My Mum uses barrier cream before doing any work that would get her hands oily. Then the Swarfega can get all of the oil off (and there isn't any ingrained into the hands). If she has got diesel on her hands she will use a citrus handwash, which means her hands smell of lemons (or oranges) instead of diesel.

I've a tub of swarfega 'power', is pretty much the old comma manista hand-wash, got bits In it to help scrub out the skin, resulted to the big bottle with the pump lid as more than one occasion I dropped the tub whilst undoing it! Sparkly clean floor and worktop mind! 🤪
A friend of mine suggested those gloves to me many years back, enough protection but just enough feel through them too, I have since been using them for most things, don't buy the white/grey coating ones through, they are odd, coatings a bit thicker and sticky, I think the last lot I bought were 48 pairs for less than £30 on ebay, I get a lot of oils on mine from suspensions services etc, once it's soaked in, I chuck them now,

So as I'm on an a lay off the bike period it's time to give the oily bits a once over.

Pedals re-greased, chain soaking in a cleaning bath overnight then an oil soak tomorrow. Front wheel out, bearings checked but still running clean and no play so its back in.

Cassette off the freehub for a clean and I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be in this many parts 🤔

It appears the tiny torx bolt was loose that keeps the middle 4 attached to the larger Web, hopefully I can put it together.

Derailleur and front ring cleaning tomorrow and rear brake bleed

Anyone happen to know what size Torx bit is needed? all of mine are too big and is it a specialist bit?

Depending on the brake, t10 or t15 generally for bleed ports, some are t25, levers tend to be the same smaller t sizes or 2.5 / 3mm Allen key on the port.

Cheers Timmo but having re read my post it bears no resemblance to what was in my head!
I was after the size of the cassette torx, although I later realised its only for ease of assembly, I did manage to use a split pin to hold the cassette together so it's now back on the bike.
I do have to check later that if the bolt comes loose whether it will throw itself into the spokes 😳
