3008 cruise control not working 5th or 6th

Post by Mimjed »

Hi all,

Looking for some help with my cruise control on 2010 3008 1.6hdi.

It works fine in 3rd and 4th up to 56 mph, after that or in 5th or 6th I get the flashing dots instead.

After a fair bit of reading people seem to either suggest neutral switch or incorrect gearbox fitted. (Have changed brake switch already, which took me from no cruise to working in 3rd and 4th).

So can anyone confirm if the neutral switch is an actual possibility? Alternatively is lexia capable of changing the gearbox coding on the ecu should it turn out to be the wrong gearbox fitted?

Cheers Jim.

Hi and welcome.

It would greatly help if you put your VIN up (automasked on post submission) so we can see exactly which system you have.

Apologies, didn't know there was a variation. VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

thank you for the welcome.

Ok, so you should have a 6 speed manual (BVM6).

If you have changed the gearbox, you must ensure the replacement gearbox matches the engraving / identification code of the original.

If the marks are different, the gearbox fitted on the vehicle does not conform. Replace the gearbox.
If the marks are identical, further fault finding is necessary.

Although PSA use similar gearboxes across their marques, there are actual variances people are not aware of and the vehicles are set up to use specific boxes. Fitting the wrong one will impact on other systems like the cruise control as the speed ratios will likely be different for one thing.

It's how the car came unfortunately, no idea of previous change of gearbox, but that is my assumption. Do Peugeot's have a build sticker in the boot like German cars so you can see what code should be on it?

Is there actually any software available to change the coding or is that internet BS?

Cheers Jim.

Hi Jim mostly internet BS - as the only coding done is to inform the BSI / ESP / ABS ECU of the type of gearbox installed so it knows to adapt it's calculations. But in this case we are talking about the designated PSA gearboxes like BVM6, BVM5, AM6, EGS, EAT6 EAT8 etc. etc. which are some examples and will depend on the vehicle type and options that were available - but there is no software coding other than this for the variant - so there is no code for BVM6**A and BVM6**B for example.

So if for example somebody previously has replaced the gearbox, they may of used one from another PSA vehicle that was from an older or newer model that had slightly different gearing ratios or other chages to meet Euro regs for the vehicles produced at the time and that may be affecting the systems. So getting a like for like replacement is essential.

If you have access to Diagbox or a suitable diagnostic tool, run a few checks to see if there are any fault errors.
Also make sure you have the correct wheels and tyre sizes fitted - as if the wheels have been changed for a different size, the ESP system has to be updated to advise of the new wheels or this will also affect speed readings and calculations.

So there are a few things to check first before assuming the gearbox has been replaced. To help you out, your gearbox should have the following markings:

It is a CP 17X71 with the following markings marked on the gearbox:

EA06 EA33 (EAKF)
or
EA06 (EAK6) EA33

As for wheels, you should have 17" Wheels with 225/50 R17 98V tyres.

Snap on says no fault codes present. It has correct wheel and tyre size on, so thank you for that.

Have to get it up in the air when I'm off shift and check gearbox code. I gather you read from underneath on these.

Thanks for your help again.

Here you go:
gearbox ID 3008.PNG
"a" identification label.
"b" Location of engravement of serial no. and plate.

So 'a' should have the info you need, but getting a photo may be easier / useful while you are there.

If it's awkward to see, one of those cheap LED extendable mirrors are really useful £5 - like this:

Well I forgot to put my findings in here, it does appear to be the wrong gearbox.

Part number fitted is 9674157510 HL136

This seems to be an 20EA31 from what I can gather.

So I figured this was the reason behind the car not being able to work out wheel speed and therefore no cruise in 5th or 6th.
