Anyone else taking up the challenges :?: There seems to be people on the leader-boards that don't sleep or is there a way of 'cheating' ......

i do some of them ,TBH usually the time ones, distance ones on a MTB are a little more dificult than a roadie.
i take anything on Strava with a pinch of salt, no matter how much i improve my times, usually by seconds not minutes, there are always times at least a 1/3 of mine...i know i'm not the quickest but?
i also try to 'beat' my own times on the climbs only.

Cheers old'uns I'm getting used to navigating around the Strava app and I get what you mean, I'm also doing an easy walking challenge for the month and I see the leader had done 34,000 km in a week :^o probably a software glitch!

I'm doing OK on the Everest Challenge nearly a third of the way up ....will be OK until I have to put snow chains on the Huffy :rofl2:

That particular Village was always where I turned off the A1M to on the way back home. It is definitely the shortest way to North West Durham via West Auckland and Tow Law rather than heading up to Durham and turning left. Not always the best decision...

NewcastleFalcon wrote: 10 Dec 2020, 00:03 I had a very short Motorcycle career the longest journey of which was a one-day excursion to Manchester and back from North West Durham on a Honda CD 175 to see the Cricket World Cup Semi Final between England and New Zealand, 20th June 1979. Great day out until the Pennines had to be crossed in the dark and in fog. Great relief to get on a "straight" road at last when the A1 was reached. In a car I would always cut off at Pierce bridge and head for the A68 as the shortest route home. Big mistake when you are hugely cold and tired and you rejoin the fog over the Durham Dales for about 30 never ending miles. Yes it was June, but I was frozen stiff when I eventually made it home.

First puncture on the tubeless couple of weeks ago now.... Small split in side wall so throw a tube in, pump, pump, pump... nothing so out comes the gas... nothing again...
New tube it turns out had a split 😡
A mile walk of shame ensued.

So repair attempted on inside and outside to no avail so tube thrown in after cleaning up all the sticky mess.
Out on Friday, Coffee break and just casually looking around and... Oh dear, tube trying to escape again.
So bit the bullet, slung the tyre away and put the original tyre with bike back on.
Had people give me all sorts of ghetto fixes.... Stitch with Dental Floss, gel pack wrapper (which I don't have) to hold the tube in etc etc
X fingers I get a longer run and actually wear out the tyre 😀

That's bad luck there Oldun, not a lot you could have done to fix it, occasionally a business card on the inside will allow you to get home, I've had a couple of tyres go like that, always when they have good tread too! 🤪

I've had a few 'half' punctures on my rear recently but always managed to limp home the slime does it's job pretty well but you do lose a fair bit of pressure until it seals, strangely I've also had it deflate fully whilst parked in the garage (slime needs a rotating wheel to be more effective at sealing) the latest one was within a few hours between rides - totally flat and slime in the tyre and leaking through the tyre wall (but at least I was saved from a walk of shame old'uns  )
Skull's tyre
Skull's tyre
I pulled the slime tube out which showed 3 punctures that were no longer sealing whether due to the heat or the age of the slime and replaced it with a standard tube .....

500 miles this month so far and well on target for Everest Challenge 8848 Mtr (7507 as of today) also doing the 1,250 Km in June Challenge whilst I'm at it [-o<
