Yes. the Easy Drive had 2 magnetic clutches for the 3 forward and 1 reverse gears. First gear also had a freewheel as well - overridden by 2nd gear! It had lots of relays and horrible wiring!

Didn't realise Rootes had anything as technical as that in the '50's. My wife worked for a Rootes dealer in Sevenoaks in the '60s, we had a nice Hawk and a couple of Super Snipes for very little money.

None of them to be found in the LTR while I was on BT. Had a few rural uax's which were not much more than a switchboard feeding a few farm buildings for example usually housed in a brick built bunker like structure more commonly seen as gas distribution blocks!! But I might suggest that the bungalow originally was the home of the local telephone operator who had a two position switchboard in the main room with a connection frame linking the local subscribers lines and the junction circuits to the network. When automation came in it was natural to install the equipment in sites previously used by switchboard operators!! :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

There used to be a few about the size of a single garage on the A9 in Caithness.

Not exactly a telephone exchange but it has been made to look homely and it is in an area renowned for secret bunkers.

They are the ones Chris, used to see quite a lot of them.

The phone cables that go from the Wick - Thurso road to John O Groats used to amuse me, big cable running along the road in a ditch, every now and again the ends would appear in a junction box fixed to the fence, the cable then ran west across open fields and through culverts where there was a river. Towards the west coast it reached a large loch and dissapeared into a microwave dish pointing to the other end where there was another dish from there it resumed its path of snaking across the land. Talk about a mix of ancient and modern. This was 40 or more years ago I can't say I have noticed it recently.
