Gregor - it should be no more complicated than this: Just select the correct Battery when you configure it. If you want to know what battery your SHOULD have fitted, provide mew with the VIN.

So i got the unit. But turns out its time for maintenance. Will not do anything, till i get oil, filters, brakepads, disks, belts. Then i'll do everything at once. I hope if i have any more questions, i will find answers here. :)

Good morning Marc.

The VIN of my C5 is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

In the past I fitted 2 BOSCH S5 77 Wh/780A (BOSCH S5 0 092 S50 080). None of them lasted more than 3-4 years #-o . Now I fitted some cheap (half price of Bosch) 75 Wh/720A L3 (Ca/Ca) battery, and all OBD faults (except fan problem related) disappeared! =D>

What should I put in BSI for this new battery?

Regards.
Gregor

Put the one in nearest to what you have - but it should not be below a 720/70A battery.

Unfortunately European standards are a mess when it comes to battery codes - as they went from DIN numbers to ETN numbers and understanding the codes is often hopeless.

Just get the best battery you can for your cash, but I would avoid an AGM battery unless you have Stop Start.

Hi, im back. I managed to fix all my problem except for the battery charge status unit. I ended up buying one from an auto morgue in Norway. Fitted in, still no communication. I got angry, thinking that they sent me nonnworking unit. But i have a friend over here with the exact same car as mine, same engine, gearbox, even same extras (except the rneg, he has rneg2). So i took out his unit, put it in my car, and still no communication. When its in his car, all fine (including my unit). I sprayd the contact plug with electronic spray, cleaned it nice and good, but nothing. The cable is still threaded nice and good, no damage there.. im bummed out..

So you fitted the BCSU and Diagbox has no communication with it when doing the Global Test?

If this is the case, then you won't be able to configure it if it cannot detect it.
Are you getting a communication issue with any other ECUs when doing a Global Test?

If this is the case, how old is your VCI diagnostic interface and is it a full chip or a cut-down cheaper version? The cheaper non-full chip versions don't have all the hardware so can't communicate with all the systems on the vehicle. If you do have a full chip interface, 1) what version of Diagbox are you running now and 2) have you ever used this diagnostic interface with a higher Diagbox software version before (whether or not you have previously uninstalled and reinstalled Diagbox with a lower version)?

Thanks for the reply.

It cannot communicate only with the Battery charge status unit, all other ECUs are seen in diagbox, which is 7.56 i think. Its a fresh install to this version, on a brand new virtual machine. The VCI i updated to 4.3.2 manually. I havent open it to see whats inside, but my guess (born from too much reading) is that if it was the non full chip, it would have problem communicating with other ECUs also. So i am lost..

Well, no fuses blown. I checked under the steering wheel and under the bonet behind the battery. Is there another fuse box somewhere? The only thing i didnt try is BSI reset, but im a little afraid of the procedure..

😦 My 2009 C5 X7 has an AGM battery. 70ah CCA 760. Can I have a problem with this? Would she be model L3?

I did have an AGM battery (Bosch S6) for a few years, but although they are good for starting the car very quickly, I wouldn't have another one as I wasn't greatly impressed with them after a few years. My current vehicle has Stop Start but uses an Enhanced Flooded Battery.

Your battery would be set as a L3 for this specification (in the Battery Charge Status Unit configuration).

Thanks for informing. I also didn't see a big difference for a good quality common battery, other than the price.
