A short blog leading to a sale.. 2004 2.0 hdi estate

Unread post by citroenxm »

I hope anyway..

I sold my 2.2 16v vtx on and took a 2004 vtr 2.0 8v 110 hdi manual in part ex.. With known small issues..

A look over and a session with lexia pointed towards a dodgy glow meter and I saw two vac pipes the wrong way round to the electro valve..

So I fitted a decent flow meter and instantly
Noticed a freeer revving engine straight away.

Further looking over shows rear calipers in a bad way..

IMG-20210416-WA0000.jpeg
Bottom bolt came away.. But not out the caliper however the top one snapped at the head so a had to resort to cutting the bolt at the arm mount point..

The brake pipe also snapped at the caliper and it broke on a bend further down too.. However a replacment pipe was found on ebay for 17 quid..

I then managed to get enough stud to make a slot for a screw driver on the caliper bolt. Bit of heat and out we came...

And there we are for another week..

Needing to recover after that lot.. And waiting for parts to arrive..

So a week later.. And reassembly commenced..

We have new calipers.. New discs.. New pads and new caliper bolts and new brake pipe

Cut out some plastic template sheets to go between and caliper and arm plus copper slip..

Disc.. Caliper and new bts on..

Brake pipe on..

And an interesting observation...

After fitting the new brake pipe and tightening it all up I opened the bleed nipple on the caliper while I put the pads in etc. However after a while the brake fluid was comming out the bleeder.. So.. I started the engine closed the bleeder pumped the pedal and then put a tube on the pedal between seat.. Opened the bleeder and out came some air.. Repeated and got the air out.. Fitted wheel and tightend the studs up with the brake on..

Completely done over now.. But hope to god the other side is Easyer..

I have so far only managed to do the rear disc.. Caliper.. Pads and replace pipe on the off side. I've bled it up best I could on my own but now the rear sinks when left. Comes up as soon as the car is unlocked or drivers door opened...

Is that possibly because I've not bled the rear properly..?

The brake circuit is completely separate from the suspension circuit Paul, so has no interaction with the suspension at all. How far is it sinking? Just a few inches or completely bottoming out?

Bottom out....

Yea that's what I couldn't work out.. It was OK when it was first here.. Would it be a completely s**t battery that does it?

There are 2 anti-sink valves in the integrated hydraulic block that should stop this. So my thoughts would be have you disturbed the rear height corrector whilst working on the rear brakes? If not, it may be worth giving the battery a good overnight charge to rule that out - as any under voltage can affect the ECU.

Ahhh there's a tiny s**t battery on it at the moment.. I think it's that. It had a decent battery in it before but I've borrowed it..

That will explain it.. The tiny battery is no good for the demands.. Its literally for a 1.0 engine.. Lol

Thanks marc

Swapped my insurance onto the C5 monday and booked an MOT for today 2 june. Took it in, and with the replacment MAF meter the power was not lost for one moment, however on over run both times the EML came on,but no loss of power..

Upon reading it gives codes P0400, and P0402, which im led to beleve on each one relates to too low air flow from egr, and the other is excess.. So out of trial tried another Electro vaccum Valve, and with engine idleing popped the vac pipe off the egr valve and felt a very strong vaccum, as i took the pipe off the egr valve it gave a nice positive pop ... anyway, connected it back up and went out again, covering 60 miles today it came on again.. So, all I can think is that despite a new EGR valvein place I cannot ruleout that the egr valve has either a gasket missing, egr pipe clamp missing or the valve is simply faulty..

Other then that a super ride and drive. Very pleased. and no advisories too..

In inspection..

So half the problem solved.

And I now know that the Citroen 'specialist' I took her too in the past has badly let me down. You might want to check that the radiator is in good order, because they replaced that as well (when I first got her).

Have you got her to 'see' the redundant brake pedal switch change state? If you have she then should have a working cruise control.

No jamws. I think it's an ecu fault. As I have pin checked the wiring with a. Vault meter the switch is working. Correctly and the signal is seen at the ecu end just the engine ecu is not switching state. If I could locate cheaply another ecu bsi and key to pit in and try I would. It thays all I can conclude sadly.

Just a thought, Paul. As we know, the EGR valve and the electro-valve that controls it were replaced at the same time (according to the paperwork which you now have), but the EGR never worked because the 'specialist' that fitted them got the vacuum pipes the wrong way round. I wonder if (because of the 'enforced' inactivity) the EGR has got clogged up so it cannot move properly? I also wonder if a shot of a proper EGR valve cleaner would help overcome this?
