Welcome to the thread cottage1, at last we have an ex patrol man to answer these issues!! Do you have any old pictures of installed equipment in the boxes? :)

If you head to Beadnell Northumberland looking for the AA Box, you will more than likely drive past and think it doesn't exist. Off in the trees at the side of the road.

Foiled again. Apparently 'J' was also a Geordie registration. I has assumed the bus reg was from Jersey.

Have some more pics from 'the North' appearing soon.

Don't remember seeing the bikes, they are probably in the collection down at the garage. This was up behind the bus and tram maintenance sheds.

Not as old as it looks, built in 2007 on an Iveco Chassis. J according to old classic car was issued by Durham County office for vehicles between Dec 1903 to November 1922.

I know the busses are reproes but beautifully done, real works of art. The repro loco's are even more brilliant but not running last week unfortunately, I believe in addition to covid one needs a new boiler.

As the title says just Jersey left, but anyone can join in with their own personal ticking off list. Page 1, Post 1 has details of the 19 boxes still in original roadside locations.

As revealed on the Whatsthisthen? thread Mick probably went perilously close to the AA Box at Mere in Cheshire on his recent trip to Warrington, maybe without realising it.

The landscape has changed in terms of the road layout and junctions around it since this picture was taken by me in the embryonic days of the challenge back in 2016. It is now more out in the open, and maybe the vast flow off traffic past it at that time, has now been diverted onto new roads.

Yes it was Tuesday, but in the morning maybe about 11ish. Drove past it and pulled in at this place

Thought we might have a coffee and cake but bit too swanky for me in my jeans and DM's.:-D

Ended up doing a full circuit through the golf course and out the top entrance back on the A556. Far too busy a road to stop heading Chester direction so drove some miles to the next roundabout, did a 360 and took a left turn at the lights just before the box (A50) parked up and came up at it from behind.

Wasn't there an immortal line from the 10" LP The Best of Sellers, about having a whip-round to send some unfortunate to a distant destination, "or anywhere...!"

Have we Google Earthed the Jersey box?

Flights to Jersey right now are surprisingly cheap. Newcastle to Jersey £27.99 outbound on a Tuesday, £15.99 return on a Thursday with Easyjet. Two nights cheap accommodation probably about a grand these days!

Not for me though :-D
