Peugeot Expert, 2.0hdi 140hp possible injector failure.

Post by Ianhw77k »

While driving out the other night, my trusty van broke down. I was just pulling away from a roundabout when something went, it lost a lot of power, the turbo stopped whistling and the engine was clattering. There was a fair bit of white smoke from the exhaust and a strong smell of raw diesel.
I've since been towed home and had a mobile mechanic come and take a look. He couldn't fix it but his diagnostic tool was showing that number 3 injector flow is sky high. The others were running at around 60 to 80 whereas number 3 was running at 130 and over. (Sorry, I don't know what the units of measurement are)

My main question is, would this problem stop the turbo from boosting, as all turbo noises have stopped but all turbo hoses are fine and there's no excessive play anywhere on the turbo. Also, does this sound like it could be just a faulty injector or do any of you think it could be something more terminal? The van is a 2010 model with around 170,000 on the clock.

OK, I've been doing some research, dangerous stuff I know.
3 of my injectors have the same part number and, what I believe to be the series number. I've found some on eBay with the same part and series number but what I don't know is, do they need to be programmed in or can I just fit them and carry on?
Also, if the diagnostic tool said injector 3, which way are the cylinders numbered?

That I can answer! PSA engines number from the gearbox end of the engine.

If this is the DW10BTED4 engine, then there are 20 identification characters on the diesel injectors,. The injectors must be matched to the cylinders and this is done with Diagbox.

From what I've been reading, these are the Siemens injectors with the single digit code on them, so as long as that's matched up it should be plug and play.
Although I found a thread on this forum from a couple of years back where a guy had almost exactly the same problem and it ended up being a dropped valve, which doesn't fill me with confidence.

The plan now is to do a leak off test and while I'm at it, I'm going to take a look under the valve cover to make sure everything's in order before I buy a secondhand injector off eBay.

If anyone wants to chime in with any advice, I'm all ears. It's been a while since I've frequented this forum, hope you're all keeping well.

Here's a pic of the top of one of the injectors.

As I said in my first post - 20 characters....or it would seem 19 in that picture for the DW10BTED4 system, which has a Delphi Injection system. I've just provided you with the same info the dealer would use.

If you pop your VIN up I will double check against your engine to be sure.

It's not the injector, leak off is showing them all pretty much equal. It's going to the garage as I'm out of ideas and out of my depth.

The only number that's different is the last 5 digits, the top row of numbers is the part number of the injector. The "JB05" corresponds with the single number 5 on the top left, denoting that they're a series 5 injector, which is the important part as some used series 4, 5 or 6 and these numbers need to match up.

Injector 4 is the only one with different numbers so I can only assume either that one, or the other three were changed at some point. This is injector 4 which is the anomaly.
