Plenty to go on with the interior, but nothing jumping out saying its one of those, so a speculative guess for another marque which did sport the wire wheel.

AC Greyhound.

Seems a bit chatty for an Aston Martin to have dullish red wire wheels

Regards Neil

Before I returned to the scene of the crime and actually wandered into the garage and asked the owner what the car was, we only really had a 5 hole wheel to go on to identify the whatsthisthen? the impossible one.

I now know its an Armstrong Siddeley Hurricane and here is the Wheel photographed today before the camera went totally kaput.
we meet again
we meet again

As a follow up report on my change of wheels this week I thought it was worth noting my assessment of the new ones. I replaced the 215/45/17 wheels, which the car was supplied with, with the set of 205/55/16 wheels which were fitted as standard to the USA models. I can only say it was an excellent modification. If we created a Level of Smoothness scale from 1 to 20 where 20 would be a perfectly smooth ride then I would suggest that my Mk1 C5's would have been around 18 on the scale. My MX3 I put at around 8 or 9 and the Subaru on its original wheels around 6. With the new boots it would definitely climb to 13 or 14 on the scale making it a very pleasurable drive when you also take the all wheel drive sure footedness into your thinking. I am happy to report that I expect to sell the 17" wheels for considerably more than I paid for the 16s so even taking into account travel costs and my lunch in Northill I expect to show a profit on the whole deal!! :-D :-D
