Re: XM 2.1 TD Woodruff key
haha maybe, but for Haynes and Autodata procedures to say it must be changed suggests something wrong with the old one !

Re: XM 2.1 TD Woodruff key
Managed to find this...
The two half-moon woodruff keys are still available from Citroen
6976 14, shown dimensioned 18.5 x 6-6 [#7]
6976 06, shown dimensioned 13 x 6-7 [#36]
The long key [#15 on the parts diagram] is not shown in the parts list - no pt no and no description.
The Citroen repair manual for the XM (XM 122-1/4 XUD11 April 1995) shows how the long "after sales" key (17) must be used on engines up to RPO 6176 (6 Oct 1993). See page 6?.
After that, presumably the crankshafts had two woodruff slots, for the two keys above.
Before that, presumably the two pulleys were keyed to each other, and to the shaft via the single half-moon of the long key.

Re: XM 2.1 TD Woodruff key
ah brilliant, thanks, that seems to make sense but I think the Autodata sheet someone showed me confused me as it said for all post 1995 cars replace a half moon key with a long key. But in reality the pre 1993 cars must have had one slot and one key for the crank sprocket.and nothing for the oil pump, so the long key would fix into the oil pump but only one slot in crankshaft, and the later cars have two slots and two separate keys for the crankshaft sprocket and oil pump!
