Dispatch Primer Bulbs?

Post by Tarquin »

Hi,

The rubber bulb in the fuel pipeline is weeping and I'm looking for a replacement to suit a 2008 - 2.0hdi Dispatch van

Main dealers apparently only sell the complete works, bulb and fuel lines at a hefty £157, yet bulbs are available for a tenner on Ebay and i've also found a couple in breakers yards BUT, none are exactly as the one currently fitted?

The bulbs look pretty much the same but the fittings either end are straight, not at right angles, (most are straight) are metal and not plastic, have additional pipe attached from the bulb to the fitting. Does this matter, providing the fuel lines attach ok? It looks like a fairly straightforward job but are the bulbs different.

HELP!! :rofl2:

My C5 suffered the same problem and like you decided the the whole lot from the dealer was too much to pay, I bought one from Ebay and adapted it to fit but the quality of the rubber was pretty poor so had to do it again.

One Ebay supplier I bought from offers several different bore sizes for the ends but twice sent the wrong size so you need to be quite plain when ordering that you need the specific size you order or you will have the hassle of sending it back.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

If there is one near you, you may find one at a ships chandlers. They can usually be found where there are sport craft on rivers and lakes, not just on the coast.

Cit pt no 1579 73 (fuel primer bulb, straight ends, used on BX, XM, ZX, Xantia etc etc) is NFP, but an equivalent is available on Mister Auto:
https://www.mister-auto.co.uk/pump-fuel ... 5e0d24f8ad
at £9.30
Good picture of the (Maxgear) item on the site.

Thanks all.............

I have a different part number Chris? The Citroen bulb with all fuel pipes is pt no: 1574CN

On Ebay a part which as I say is close to but not exactly the same for the bulb only is given as 1574.63. From what I can tell this may just be the difference between straight end fittings or angled.

Here's what I've got, with the Ebay offering below.........and I can't immediately see how they are compatible?

Google images brings both of those (1574 CN & 1574 63) up as bulb + lots of pipework.
The 1579 73 item is (on Mister Auto) just the bulb, and straight. Good photo/drwg there.

Yes, but is either bulb compatible with the existing connections?

The bottom one looks to be a straightforward connection to the tube, but does the right angled top fitting simply replace that shown in plastic on the existing unit?

I'll try to re-add the photo tomorrow. I tried a new hosting site and think the image had a time limit on usage?

You do not need to use a hosting site to post up photos. Click on "Full Editor & Preview", then on the "Attachments" tab, then on the "Add files" button, and then the file you want to add.

The two primer bulbs on Mister Auto, equivalent to 1579 73, both have "straight" hose connections.
- MaxGear 43-0159 (a picture on there)
- Delphi 9001-088A (found pictures on the web).

For all of these, looks as if you could just unfaster the securing clips, and transfer across your angled connectors, one of which looks like some kind of snap-in fixing. Worth a punt.

Well, at least it's right-angle, but not sure of the diameter of the hose connections. You might have to just measure them before ordering.
Try it; you should always be able to unclip and use your original couplings, if necessary.
Bulbs look to be all the same - just the hose size that there's a choice of.
