Citroën C4 2011 diesel 1.6 windows problems

Post by Nikodin »

Hello everyone!
I’m having problem with my front windows on a Citroen C4. When I press the button to ope the driver front window, both front windows are opening and if I try to open the passenger front window using the driver side button it doesn’t work.

The passenger front window works fine if I open and close the from the passenger side.

Any help?

A Possibilities I can think of on the info you have supplied:

Before looking at the points below, you may want to try a BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure first to reset the ECU.

If that does not solve the issue try the following:

1) The driver's door pad control module is faulty. Water ingress (especially rain) can get onto the buttons and then underneath onto the circuit boards and cause problems / calcification etc. Remove the door pad carefully, unplug the connectors and then take of the casing and gently clean the components with electrical contact cleaner (not WD40 or oil).

2) Secondly, if this does not resolve the issue, check the wiring connections from the driver's door to the bulkhead. There is a rubber tube containing the wires - remove the tube carefully and inspect the wiring for any short circuits / breaks, so repair and insulate.

3) If neither of these work you may have a faulty door control panel, which may need replacing.

Thank you for your reply. I have already replaced the door control panel and is still doing the same thing. I will try the tube at the hinge, hopefully that will work.

Ok, it’s very important to ensure the correct module has been replaced. These units are specific to options, build date and electronic architecture employed on the vehicle. They may look identical but are from it internally.

Is this sudden behaviour? Has this module ever been working correctly?

Is the right one as it has the same codes and I’ve bought it using my car reg number. I have checked the wires , but everything looks ok.

I don’t know if it did this before as I only bought it few days ago. It was doing this when I bought it, but I thought it will be an easy fix by replacing the module.

I really appreciate you time for answering my question.

Don’t know what to do, I have called a Citroen specialist and they’ve said that they will charge me £90 for check and extra for fixing it.

£90 is about the standard diagnostic dealer charge.

The reason I asked is that the unit may have been replaced by the previous owner if it was playing up before you owned the vehicle - and it may not of been the correct unit (electronically). I take it you have bought a second hand part using your reg. Be aware that sellers will often not have the correct part from the registration - because there can be many units fitted to a vehicle, but the exact one will depend on the options and equipment fitted.

The only way to ensure you have the correct part is from your VIN number. If you have the old part or the new one - can you look on the control unit for the long part number? It may begin with 96 or 98. If you have this number and your VIN number, I might be able to tell it you have the correct module or not.

I’ve bought the part as new from an authorised manufacturer. It costed £65 and I’ve tested on my friends car which is the same year and model. It works fine on his car.

Ok, so wiring needs to be your focus.

Hi, have you solved the problem? Mine stop working at the driver side. The master switch doesn't work.

Hi guys new to the group
Having trouble with my 08 Citroen C4 grand picasso
Failed NCT on drivers window not going up or down
Checked the fuse and the motor They're both working fine
Was told by a mechanic that the window regulator was broken without him even looking at the car just wondering would that stop the driver side console from operating the other windows as it's not letting me put them up or down either also checked the loom doesn't seem to be any brakes in the wiring
Thanks

These are separate issues.

If the motor in the driver side or other windows is heard when operating the windows up or down but the window is not moving, then it is likely the regulator wire has snapped (rust from water ingress). If this is the case do not operate it too much or you risk the cables tangling up.

The regulator wiring has nothing to do with the operation of the other windows.

Can you open and close the other windows from their own control buttons? If so, then your issue with the other windows will likely be the driver's door control module wiring connections. The connectors on the underside of the module can work loose form the door slamming over time. Checking the connector blocks under the module can resolve this.

If not the connectors or the module, then likely to be the wiring itself - usually in between the door aperture which is the weak point from opening and closing the door. The wiring can break inside the sleeving and cause intermittent operation.

No noise coming from drivers door when I press the console seems like no power going to the door and yes all other windows open when using there own buttons

So you can't operate the passenger and rear windows from the driver's control panel, but you can hear the driver's window motor working when operating it? (I assume so as you said you checked the motor).

If you can't operate any other windows from the control panel then it has to be the driver's control panel module, the connectors under it or the wiring to it as I mentioned.

No can't hear the motor only reason I know the motor is working is because I connected it to the passenger door and it was fine
