Citroen C5 Tourer Exclusive - 2008 X7 hydractive suspension problem

Post by Mantisman »

Hi All,

I have an intermittent hydractive suspension problem with my Citroen C5 Tourer Exclusive - 2008 X7. I keep getting the "suspension faulty" warning and the front suspension goes right down. If I stop the car for a few minutes and then restart, the front end comes up as normal with no sign of the warning anymore and the suspension acts as normal. The problem has happened numerous times in the last few weeks but it always seems to right itself.

I've recently replaced a leaking steering rack which I though was causing this problem because the LDS level kept getting too low but it seems it wasn't this causing the problem.

Can anyone shed any light on the problem?

Regards,

Ian

The Front height corrector may be faulty and needs replacing, but you'll need to get it diagnosed with Diagbox to see what fault codes are logged to better understand the problem first of all. If you post the fault codes here we should be able to help.

Thanks Marc. I'm going to book it in with my indie garage so they can check the diagnostics. I'll keep you posted.

My indie garage just plugged their diagnostic system into the car and it came up with these errors: C1141 - Front height sensor uncategorised. C1146 - Rear height sensor. U1118 - No communication with built in system.

The garage suggested clearing the errors and see which one comes back when it does it again. It mainly just goes down at the front but a few weeks ago it did go down at the back as well as the front at the same time. Ever since then, its just gone down at the front.

Ok so as you have already surmised C1141 relates to the front and C1146 to the Rear height sensors - U1118 means there is no signal to the BSI from the Integrated Hydraulic Interface (BHI).

The first thing I would be doing is checking for LDS fluid that has leaked or run down the LDS reservoir onto the pump and onto the electrical connections of the BHI - but whatever you do - do not get underneath the vehicle at any time unless it is supported independently because when there are suspension issues, the vehicle can easily drop down and will crush you. The system is 'live' even with the engine off and if it is not getting the correct data from the height correctors, may make a sudden compensation and adios amigos.

I would find it difficult to accept that both front and rear height correctors have failed at the same time, so I suspect a dirty wiring connection or contamination in one of the electrical pin connections at the BHI end, so focus there.

Thanks Marc, that's great. I'll pass your info on to my indie mechanic who will be working on it.

I recently took it to get tyres fitted and the tyre fitter had the suspension on it's highest setting to jack it up. When I picked the car up, I noticed there was some oil underneath the car below where the LDS reservoir is, so it must've come out when he let the suspension down. Maybe there was too much LDS in the system at the time. So LDS will have gone onto the pump when this happened.

Thanks so much for your help.

Ian

Be very wary of tyre fitting stations that know nothing about these cars.

Guidance and links to stickers can be found on the Forum here - that serve as a reminder of how to properly jack the car up. There is a real danger of exploding tanks or leaking reservoirs if the proper guidance is not observed:
