c4gp 2014 egs gearbox fault will not program

Post by linny »

apologies if this is in the wrong section we have had the car 5 months all fine and than it came up with gearbox fault no drive and had to be recovered home .i noticed gear box reservoir was lower than bottom mark so i toped up with the proper fluid. after looking at many posts on here a i have checked fuses connections on gear box ecu etc the latter was a bit mankey so cleaned up and put dielectric grease on . no joy so i got my mechanic friend to try and sort it with his snap on scanner . it came up with low pressure he tried to sort it but the car went in to economy mode and than he lost connection it did this many times and after this he got cheesed off with it. he has tried a few more times after work to repressurized but to no avail is there a correct procedure to do this .do i buy a lexia and try my self as he i doing my me a favour and its no fair on me to keep asking for him to help me out although i have offered to pay him for his time etc thanks for reading

These piloted manual gearbox systems can be very troublesome to resolve, but you really do need to get it diagnosed with Diagbox before doing anything else.

The hydraulic fluid for the gearbox and clutch actuators MUST only be checked when the system is depressurised and to do this you need Diagbox or other compatible diagnostic equipment.

If i am doing any sort of programming of actuators on piloted manual gearboxes I always connect another running car via jump leads when carrying out the procedures, i used to find (especially on the older sensodrive boxes) more often than not the procedure would fail if this is not done as the actuators can draw a fair bit of power & make the battery voltage drop too low. This is even when using Lexia or diagbox. I would image the same would apply with aftermarket kit.

thanks for the reply's will the level in the reservoir rise when its depressurized as it was low and i toped it up (MUST only be checked when the system is depressurised) ps there is no sign of a leak . i have read on here that the system must be depressurized before it can be repressurized is this the right way i think my pal just tried to repressurized it he went through all sorts hence why asking to try and get it sorted thanks again

The official procedure is to depressurise the system to check the correct oil level and then topped up if necessary to the recommended level, then re-pressurise the system.

As per Wheeler's post regarding power supply, if your mate is going to help, get him to try that suggestion and then try and get us some diagnostic fault codes and then post them up here.

I can only give you instructions from Diagbox - which is the proprietary diagnostic software used by PSA.

You would undertake a Global Diagnostic and then access the Gearbox Piloted ECU:
->Gearbox ECU
->Specific operations
-> Check of the gearbox piloting actuator oil level

From within the next menu:

Select: Depressurisation of the hydraulic circuit.

All the oil contained in the electrohydraulic actuator unit and in the pressure accumulator returns to the piloting actuator hydraulic reservoir.

-> Check the level of oil contained in the piloting actuator hydraulic reservoir.
-> The oil level must be at maximum ( as "a").
EGS.PNG

Carry out:
> Top up with oil if necessary
-> Pressurise and bleed the hydraulic circuit

All the oil contained in the electrohydraulic actuator unit and in the pressure accumulator returns to the piloting actuator hydraulic reservoir.

hi again my mate has been around again and followed what you chaps have said to try .we had a bit more of a result it still was not playing ball to start with but hopefully got it narrowed down to CODES P 1694 P1728 P0868 P0945 P1755 P0896 P1767 P1800 P0949 P0868 P0925 these codes where cleared apart from P0945 electric pump unit electric motor control short circuit to +. THIS CAME BACK ON . WE DID NOTICE A WHITE RELAY IN THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE BONNETT that had oily finger marks on not us its got omron 9687709180 marked on the relay might this be something to do with this fault thanks again linny

When you turn on ignition can you hear the pump running?

You say the reservoir level was low. Did you find any leaks?
Check for oil dripping where gearbox bellhousing and engine meet.. toward the rear of the car.

no i can not hear the pump and at the moment there is no sign of a leak . its bit awkward for me at moment as I'm recovering from elbow surgery etc .hence my friend has to do the hard things when he can .but I'm getting there .

Here's some data of the remaining fault code:
Fault Code:P0945
Description of Fault:Electro-pump unit electric motor control fault: Short circuit to positive.
Possibility 1
- Pressure sensor fault
Possibility 2
- Short circuit to positive; The pump is stopped
Possibility 3
- Incoherence between activation of the pump and variation in pressure

This fault is triggered when the Hydraulic pump is stopped and in the absence of fault codes P0840, P0841, P0842, P1589, P1590.
Conditions for Fault to clear:No faults for 2 seconds
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • The gears above 3rd gear cannot be engaged
  • Request for neutral if the engine is running and the vehicle is stationary with a gear engaged without the brake pedal being pressed
  • Crawling deactivated
  • If the vehicle has the Stop and Start system: Stop and start function deactivated
The following warnings may also be activated (depending on equipment / Gearbox Type):
  • "SERVICE" warning lamp
  • Sport warning lamp
  • Snow warning lamp
  • Automatic or 6-speed piloted manual gearbox warning lamps (Orange PRND triangle)
  • Display of a "-" on the fascia panel
Symptoms:
  • Difficult/impossible to change a gear
  • Lack of power
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
Suspect Areas:
  • Pressure sensor
  • Electric motor
  • Controlled manual gearbox ECU

Hi, I change gearbox and tried to programming a gearbox. There is piloted gearbox.
My car is C5 1,6 e-hdi.
I can't to comminicate with piloted manual in lexia because of error code P0948.
I did eveything (checked connectors, battery etc).
My car starts fine, error is gearbox, AUTO is flashing and N is on main board.
Can you help me to solve this problem?

Here's a description of the fault that may help you troubleshoot the issue:

Start with the connector on the gearbox ECU as stated below on pin 1 for a start, then look at the other suggestions.
Fault Code: P0948
Description of Fault: Electro-pump unit electric motor control fault : Relay jammed open. Open circuit or short circuit to positive or short circuit to earth (Pin 1 of the 12-way connector of the ECU). Technical precision on the context of appearance of the fault code: Supply voltage correct
Conditions for Fault to clear: No faults for 1 second
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: If the vehicle has the Stop and Start system : Stop and start function deactivated
  • "SERVICE" warning lamp
  • Sport warning lamp
  • Snow warning lamp
  • Automatic or 6-speed piloted manual gearbox warning lamps (Orange PRND triangle)
  • Display of a "-" on the fascia panel
Symptoms:
  • Difficult/impossible to change a gear
  • Lack of power
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
  • Leaks
Suspect Areas:Frequent causes:
  • Electric motor
  • Electro-pump
  • 30 A fuse relating to pin 5 of the ECU connector
Other possible causes:
  • Electrovalves
  • Controlled manual gearbox ECU
  • Leak/kinking in the hydraulic piping
  • Connectors
  • Electrical harness

How to do this: "Open circuit or short circuit to positive or short circuit to earth (Pin 1 of the 12-way connector of the ECU)".
Do you have picture of this connector?

Thanks!
