Hello. I just bought a 2010 Citroen C5 (X7).

I love the car so far but I was surprised that the radio unit / satnav reboots randomly.

I have discovered that the previous owner only went to Citroen once and then went to independent garages for servicing.

I have also discovered that the radio unit does not communicate with PP2000/Lexia.


My Vin is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

My radio unit software version is: rneg_D_R20ter_R20.07

I have removed the SD card but the reboots still happen. Can you advise further action?

I am also concerned if the battery / alternator system have something to do with these reboots...

Also the automatic wiper system / sensor cannot communicate with PP2000/Lexia... is this system related with the radio / satnav unit?

No, it's the flash memory used in these units that is starting to fail. They don't have a Hard Disk.

There's no flash memory card that can be replaced on these as the memory is on the motherboard, so it's either a replacement or repair I'm afraid. You may want to try and update the firmware, however this may not make any difference and may even make things worse if the on-board memory is starting to fail causing the reboots.

You car's battery won't have anything to do with the system rebooting.

Thank you for your advice. So first step would be to replace the RAM memory, then if the symptoms do not go away, replace flash memory.

In case of replacing the flash memory, is there a way to reprogram it?

I have read about the service CD that you put in the unit and reprograms it.

I have someone that can do the eletronics chip swap for me but they are not specialized in this kind of hardware

I'm not aware of any specifics of the repairs - Citroen either send them off to Clarion or suggest a replacement. The memory chip is on the Motherboard IIRC and these may have to be programmed separately from reinstalling the firmware alone, as that just installs the operating system and creates the partitions. These units were made my Harman Becker, along with the Navidrive 3D (NG4). The NG4 has a Hard Drive, however on these units it requires specialist software to 're-animate' the units. I've not known anyone have these repaired DIY though....

I have ordered tools to remove the unit and investigate this further

I'm just trying to save you some grief - most of these failures relate to the motherboard chip corruption / failure and the units have to have specialist software / hardware (Martek) to 'reanimate' them. Some have tried with Tera Term, but as you can see there is no clear solution form this Forum, plus it is not helped by some people mixing up the later RT6 Magneti Marelli system with the Harman Becker RNEG (MyWay) which are 2 completely different units!
