MyWay / RNEG Issues

Post by GiveMeABreak »

New Thread started on behalf of Renbot83 to keep it separate from the 'BSI Reset Thread'
renbot83 wrote:Hi All, newby here...
I know this thread is a couple of months old, but hopefully l can get a bit of help here too...

I have a 2011 C5 2.0HDI 160 which has started resetting the radio/nav unit every few minutes. At first it was just a reboot, but recently it reset the whole unit; i.e. losing all radio presets, wiping sat nav history, restoring colour scheme to default etc. After a bit of googling and suggestions from this forum, I have replaced the battery and done a bsi reset, but problem still exists!

Firstly, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Secondly, should a bsi reset wipe the memory seat positions? (it did not after mine, so not sure if i didn't do it right?)
Thanks in advance!

Ok, I suspect that you need a firmware update on your system as there are known issues with many units and an update is likely to resolve it. Can you post or PM your VIN and I'll be able to help determine your Head Unit and Nav system and tell you how to get the current version info and updates.

There are 4 systems available for this year, MyWay, Navidrive 3D, Navidrive (RT4/5) & eMyWay. These are made by different manufacturers and each has different firmware & software requirements. :-D

Ok, so you have the MyWay (RNEG) system.

To find out the firmware version, press the SETUP button. From the list. scroll down until you find SYSTEM, select this option, then from the following list, select SOFTWARE VERSION. This will tell you the current firmware version of your system. Let me know what that is, then I can determine the update you need (if any).

No problems - the latest Firmware is Version rneg_D_R50b_R50.03. You can either get the firmware on a CD ordered from your Citroen Dealer, or I have a download to the Firmware which I have sent in a Provate message to you with instructions.

You're an absolute gentleman - thanks so much for that. Will get an SD card and try it out, fingers crossed this will do the trick!

I'll update here once I know more.

No problems at all - this latest fix doesn't mention a fix for the restart issues - but as this is quite a few versions later than the version you have it could well have been fixed in an earlier update.

Pull the unit out and check to see it the bulit-in fan is working, these units are know to heat quite a bit, ad since now it should be the heat season (at least in my parts it is ... :D ), the unit can overheat and randomly shut itself down and in some cases do a factory reset (or lose the settings at least). From my experience so far, the cases of software updates actually curing similar issues (sadly) are very rare.

I had frequent NG4 restarting issues on early firmware Vab, never had any restarts since subsequent firmware updates. You're right about the fan issues - especially as these RNEG units are a lot smaller and retain the heat more easily - the NG4 is twice the size and the air has plenty of room to circulate. :)

chaps sorry to hijack..
mine does this.. a load of clicking either from centre console or passenger footwell or both , then the system shuts down.. this can happen at random, sometimes after a long drive and sometimes (like today) after only a few minutes.. it then just keep doing this, sometimes restarting after a few mins or longer and its fine.. It only happens occasionally, but damn annoying :)

I can hear a fan working sometimes, it's quite loud (or it's the HD spinning). but this noise doesn't always coincide with the rebooting..

I have the Nav 3d

thanks

You're not hijacking John :-D Cabin Temp makes a difference too - I tend to drive at between 18-21 Degrees - makes a difference to the electronics.
Also, as I think I mentioned before - if you use the Jukebox function then of course the Hard Drive is going to be spinning away playing your tunes and generating more heat. I never use mine at all, preferring to use the SD card for all my hundreds of MP3s - very little heat generated. :-D

Do you have the latest firmware John? It's N42C for the Navidrive 3D in case you want to check.

I'm afraid to say the update did not fix the issue... It updated fine, new Citroen logo on startup, but still restarting every 5mins or so....

Heating doesnt seem to be an issue.. We live in the west of ireland: heat is NEVER a problem!! Cabin temp always 19-21

After a longish drive you can hear the fan when you turn the engine off.

Not a clue what else to try, ao please keep suggesting!! Very much appreciated!
