Lucky there then - but do check the scuttle drains as water can end up in the footwell of the interior if left to build up.

One other thing - if clearing any debris from the scuttle area, don't forget to park the wipers first - I've seen people do this and take all the paint off the bonnet edge with the wiper arm! You probably know, but after ignition off, just tap the wiper arm fully down to park and ditto again to reset.

ordered Delphi EGR and booked it in for the 26th for the work, I fired the car up this morning and every time the car fires up i get handbrake faulty and the ESP/ ASR. Its strange how its gradually got worse over past few days. I was wondering if the EGR is Faulty would i notice anything different when driving? it seems to drive with no problems no hicks or farts from the engine?

The only codes we are getting is "E8 P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor "A" circuit low "

Here's the fault code specific - Copy voltage too low:
Fault Code: P0405
Description of Fault: Electric EGR valve repeat signal fault: Copy voltage too low
Conditions for Fault to Return: When the valve is controlled: The fault codes are returned immediately in the engine management ECU
The diagnostic warning light only comes on and switches off after 3 engine starting cycles (**)
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • The engine ECU cuts the regulating of the EGR (*)
  • The electric EGR valve auto-programming operations are no longer carried out
Symptoms: Switching on of the diagnostic warning light
Noise: Cold
Suspect Areas:
  • Engine ECU 5V shared supply
  • Electrical harness
  • Electric exhaust gas recycling valve
(*) Consequence for the parameter measurements:
Electric EGR valve control OCR = 0 %
Position repeat = 0 %

(**) 1 Starting cycles:
Engine start
Engine cut-off
Wait for the instrument panel to switch off

Testing requires:
  • Adaptor harnesses
  • Multimeter
  • Controlled terminal box (in manual mode) or manual terminal box

Cheers for that , I’ve been having a look at the drains behind the front wheels and the scuttle panel and I noticed there was a gap between windscreen and panel like it’s not sitting right

Ive managed to get it back on flush but I think all the rain water has been just running down my windscreen and ontop of the engine because the heat cloth stuff is soaking as well.

I am now itching to see if that’s what’s caused the problem with the egr but I think I’m best letting the mechanic do it haha. I had a drive in it before and got the reappearance of the depoluttion error with all the other errors.

Can I cause damage to the car driving it with these faults? I read others who have had similar the car has went into limp mode

It's quite awkward getting that trim back on - it should clip into the track at the bottom of the screen, but you need to feed it in from each side pressing quite hard to clip it in. It will all need to come off to do the EGR anyway... The fuel and air filters have to come out as well to do the EGR, if they've not been changed recently I would get them to stick new ones in whilst they are there.

Thanks rich I will get them to do that , rich since you have seen the area the egr valve is in do you think water could find it’s way to it with the scuttle problem?

Unlikely, it's a long way down! More likely it is just full of carbon and has stopped going round.

Had the same problem. Just had my C4GP done. Needed a new n/s/f sensor, had the wheel bearing done as well, just in case.
Just my luck new sensor was faulty, but a replacement seems to have done the job.

Little update:

Got the agr replaced bought a Delphi one and then handbrake /asr/esp and depolution error that appeared soon as the engine started all went.... this morning started the engine and beep handbrake faulty warning but it went straight off with no other errors?

No idea now what could be wrong, it’s prob been fine for 3 weeks. I park outside my house on slight downward slope so wonder if they handbrake faulty that I have had a few times since owning the car maybe isn’t anything to do with egr. I am also wondering if low battery voltage could cause that handbrake faulty to show but to show no errors and just beep the error then go?

Hi Daniel sorry for the late reply. It was after traveling for a while the dreaded Handbrake faulty, gearbox faulty and ABS/ESP knackered. Then once it had dropped to 3rd gear wouldn't go any higher, limp mode job.

***PLEASE HELP***
ESP warning light, faulty brake, red stop next to service light, auto handbrake off, car was fine yesterday, it’s booked into a garage Monday for a spring coil, can this be causing these warnings lights? And will it be ok to drive it 2 miles to a garage?

Yes you can drive the car - but be aware that whilst this fault is active, you will not have the ESP functions - only basic braking.

You may have some damage to an ABS wheel speed sensor, but first step is to get it diagnosed for the fault codes.

Also, be aware in case you don't already know, that you should always replace both coil springs at the same time as not doing so can cause some imbalance and an uneven ride, causing the other spring to rapidly deteriorate also.

Thanks for replying, I didn’t know about getting both repaired - thank you.
Do you know a rough cost for this work if it’s not related to the springs?

Citroen charge about £60 for a diagnostic. Not getting a diagnostic can lead to more expense in the long run if you have to take it to multiple garages and pay multiple charges.

At least Citroen will be able to advise you of the likely cause and an estimate.
