Additive low

Post by c4GPicasso »

Hello all,

I put some diesel into the car today. When I switched on the ignition I got the following message '' Particle filter additive level too low''. From reading up on this forum im guessing ill need a refill pouch. Im not afraid to take on the task myself and I have the software to reset the counter. Im a bit stumped when it comes to the fluid I need. I have a 2014 B78 C4 grand Picasso. The VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I havent spotted a guide or youtube video which would be helpful.

I would say a 2014 model will be Eolys Powerflex. Check if your click fit unions are blue.

Would it be a tank and not a pouch on this year of vehicle ?

Joe be prepared and a have a comfy seat close by when you get the price for a 1 litre bottle let alone the 3 litre refill kit.

I think liquid Gold is only slightly more expensive :(

It is a reservoir that is fitted on this vehicle and not a pouch based system.

So what type of refill kit do I need? and is it the Powerflex fluid I need?

For the year and build date it would be Powerflex, but double check the connectors which should be Blue to confirm this.

I have removed the under tray but I cannot find the additive tank. All I can see is the fuel tank. I have checked the other access points in the boot and one is covered with a plastic cover and the other is just hollow. Should the tank be visible just in front of the rear drivers wheel?

What you've found under the rear seat is the access point for the tank sender unit (for the fuel gauge). This is combined with a low pressure fuel pump on some vehicles. Underneath the car that looks very much like the Adblue container that we have on our 308. If it's not the fuel tank that is!

It does depend on the car but I think you'll find the Eolys container behind a flap on one of the rear wheel arches. Like I said, it does vary so someone who really knows will tell you for sure.

The additive tank is attached directly onto the fuel tank as you can see from this picture Item (4) in blue.

It is accessed from underneath the vehicle ideally and will probably be hidden by a protective heat shield.

Hmm, that's interesting. That drawing looks very similar to the second photo. You can see the little recess for the hoses to clip into on both. With that in mind surely the additive tank should be visible right at the front of the same photo?

BTW, it's the fuel tank not the Adblue tank

Ok just to confuse the situation a little more. I found the additive tank. Its actually located on the passenger side in front of rear wheel. Its the blue connector. I want to try and source the fluid locally so is it powerflex? and any other fluid its knows as? ive seen Eolys 176 mentioned etc. Looks like a small tank. Maybe holds 1.5 ltr

Where did we get Adblue coming into this? I certainly didn't mention it :-k I said "Item (4) in blue" as in location on the diagram. He doesn't have an SCR system on this vehicle.

Yes, you need Powerflex Fluid. It sure is a smaller tank, so I would only get a litre bottle to top it up as the stuff cannot be kept after opening. Do not use any other Fluid apart from Powerflex as you still probably have some of the original fluid in the tank.

I managed to top up the additive tank ( very messy ) as the bottle didnt come with a refill kit. I have tried numerous times to reset the counter but the warning still shows up ( im using LEXIA ). Is there a walk through guide? is there a pump to prime first etc? Communication error with the additive ECU pops up on a global test, could this be the issue?

I have the same issue with my C5 which I refilled in August. I cannot reset the ecu no matter what I try but the good news is the system is working correctly and I have now completed 8000+miles since topping up and I just ignore the warning when it comes up knowing that the system is working ok. I know that because emission testing shows exceptionally good results, also possibly due to my only using Shell V-Power diesel!! :)
