Yes that works fine, thanks Peter. I examined my tyres this morning and I've got 3.5-4mm tread all round so I think they'll be up for renewal on my return from the September Stroll.

I have hardly done any miles since lockdown, my tyres are getting a bit thin so I might replace them if we manage to get to Scotland this year.

I'm hoping for great things for those tyres, the red car has 'Mowhawk' on the front and is noticeably quieter and smoother riding than the silver one, unfortunately they don't seem to make them any more.

One of my favourite online tyre sites is https://www.valuetyres.co.uk/ For the C5 I've been using either Nexen or Hankook. I pay by Paypal and the tyres are delivered to my local tyre shop in a couple of days time and fitted by appointment. Currently they're doing Nexen for £90 and Handkook for £106 - fitted, with new valve and balance.

I have used Nexen on the 406 and they are quite soft and quiet. I will have a look at your tyre list.

All the tyres I have bought for a few years have been from camskill. Mostly uniroyal rain expert, but for the departed c1 I opted for toyos. They were on a special and were something like 130 quid for 4, and a local guy fits and balances them for a tenner a corner. The leon is approaching new front tyre time, but it will be getting used uniroyals. These are two 17" tyres that I bought new about 3 years ago and were on aftermarket alloys on the xantia. They havent got hardly wear on them as they were on the back so I shall get the good of them before they are too old.

In my previous job Black circles set an account up with the company & whilst it was good for most customers it did little for those fitting the tyres, if we could we would have got rid of the account as there were more emails, deliveries & conformations to be handled + there was then the job, anyone care to fit 4 run flats of low quality to a customers car who thinks the job only takes 2 minutes to put a tyre on...... Oh and watch out for the dot codes, a lot of these tyres are old stock which your typical tyre dealer cannot sell after they become 3 yrs old, I've had to fit tyres that are older than the ones coming off the vehicle.

I've bought all my tyres for the last 8 -9 years directly online now - mostly from Camskill, Tyre* something or other (not tyreshopper), but they are no longer trading sadly, and Oponeo and some others. I have them shipped to home or to a trusted local fitter. Reason? Because I can access a far wider range of tyres, so much greater choice, rather than the over-priced crap being offered by mainstream tyre fitters. Oh and far cheaper too, even when adding the valves (where needed), balancing and fitting prices.

I think the last time I went to get a quote from Kwik Fit You Up, - they wanted about £180 a tyre when the exact same tyre was £90 online. A few choice words were exchanged, mostly by me that included 'mug', 'fell off a tuna truck' and 'dream on'.

Oponeo offers me over 80 tyres currently for my fitment, and I like that I can read and compare the owner reviews and specs all in the same place.

Camskill seem to still be trading. I have bought from them but not for the last couple of years as Oponeo were cheaper.

Daughter fell foul of tyre fitters a few weeks ago, puncture on a Sunday, only KwikFit and National open. £199.00 for the only one in stock that fit.- - Michelin.
Worse, the new tyre was wrecked a week later when her boyfriend borrowed her car.
Replaced with a part-worn, £40.
She needed one for her MOT on Monday - again, the part worn place, £35 (she is better looking than her boyfriend).

For the past four or five years I have bought from Camskill or Oponeo, always Sailun tyres, and been more than happy with them.

Yes, Camskill are fine Steve - it was the other company I couldn't remember `Tyre*' something - but as I'm typing this it has flooded back to me Tyretraders.com which are sadly no longer trading.

Yes indeed. I got four part worns for my C5 for £104 (£26 per tyre including balancing and disposal).

They are mostly imported from Germany where they have to change tyres after about five miles. Loads of wear left on them and well within the use by date.
I have used them long ago and never had the slightest problem with them. Naturally they don't last as long as new tyres but in an emergency can't be beaten.
I'm dubious about how legal the operations are but that is not my problem.

I prefer to fit new tyres now though and have found the Sailun ones to be fine, very quiet and smooth, grip very well and weirdly never need balancing - the C5s could never be balanced no matter what tyres I put on, and they were top names with top prices.
A bonus is that they are inexpensive. Not cheap.
