Post to Denmark

Post by Gibbo2286 »

I put a woofer speaker on Ebay, free postage to UK, the only bid is from a guy in Denmark, he says he's happy to pay the postage but then the customs form needs filling,

OK I can do that until it comes to the restricted goods...........anything with magnets :? they can be posted but within certain field limits. aagh! what the hell is the field range of a woofer speaker?

Iwas was going to extract a couple of paragraphs and post them up, but I'll leave you to see if you can extract something useful from them....looks like the chapter and verse with a couple of rule of thumb workrounds.
You may have to find a compass though to do the little rough test.

Well somebody has to say it. It's another Brexit bonus!

There have to be some good puns here...

Could you put the thing in some sort of shielding, and declare it non-magnetic?

Nothing to do with Brexit Paul, it's in the Royal Mail prohibited goods list, even for inland.

This is what I get on the PO site. The lady at our Post Office is a stickler for the rules so I want to be sure.

Well, that makes sense. If I were to send a magnetic tape to somebody I would not be happy to find it had been damaged in transit because it had been shipped close to a very powerful magnet.

Just make sure you send it in a large enough box so the field strength won't be that high outside the box. If it were me then I'd pack the woofer in a normal sized box that it would have been dispatched in in the first place, then put that box inside another with at least 6" clearance around the inside.

Not sure how big the woofer is, Gibbo, but I'd be tempted just to wrap and box it in something thick/substantial, and hand it over (maybe another P.O.?).
Have had a good few pairs of 5", 6" and 6½" speakers from Amazon, without any complications.

I would start by using a navigation compass, and see how far away it is affected by the speaker. Than you have an idea of how big a box to use.

Generally, in my experience there is little leakage from a well designed and made speaker so it really should not be a problem.

Good speakers do all they can to concentrate the flux where it's needed...

Try alternative couriers - I have used iPost Parcels in the past but I think they are now a part of DHL.

Well that's done it's on its way, surprisingly the Post Office was the cheapest at £13.00, other couriers wanted a couple of quid more and require the recipient to collect from one of their offices/shops.
