My clues would have been a legend of the Tower of London combined with a Scottish Destiny.

That's right Neil :) I'm most impressed by how you arrived at the answer, Sherlock Holmes would be proud of you :)

I love the place and often ride through it...

Interesting you referred to it as a hamlet... It made me do a bit of research and I find the definition of both village and hamlet to be very blurred and in the case of this location it's hard to define one way or another... Locally it's accepted to be a small village based on it having a church. Hamlets, as I've always understood it, don't have a church...

Next time I'm out and about I'll visit a village with a church but only a very small number of dwelling spread over a wide area ;)

Might be difficult if you don't know your flags. I've chopped bits of a flag up (the "jigsaw" is not the whole flag just selected bits). Just to require a little bit of looky-up, This is the question
What is the name of the ship :?:

Clue with every attempt

No problem sharing, :)

I reassembled as much as I could and then hunted through our colonial flags until I found something resembling my concoction:

The snippet of the union jack was the biggest clue for me, then just a DDG search on the Bermudan flag. :-D

There is quite an interesting account on Wiki of the vessel, and it inspired Will Shakespeare's "The Tempest"

The ship on the flag was part of a question on Richard Osman's House of Games tonight...

Indeed there is, my DDG search took me to the wiki page and I was tempted to go along with a rebound question about The Tempest until the penny dropped that you had probably already seen that Neil, so I decided against and watched the Aptera video instead :-D

Why does that remind me of Captain Pugwash, was that his ship? :?:

Answering my own question , Captain Pugwash's ship was The Black Pig and his enemy Cut Throat Jake sailed The Flying Dustman. I think I had made a mental linking and got confuddled!! :-D

His vessel was "The Black Pig", while his mortal enemy, Cut-Throat Jake, sailed "The Flying Dustman".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Pugwash

Mind you, "The Flying Pig" sounds like the name of a pub run by Dave Gilmour or Nick Mason from Pink Floyd!
