I'm warming to young Mathewson's gentle presentation style :-D No one has ever "hard sold" me anything, quite the opposite.

I know what you mean Neil, gentle info on a 'take it or leave it, I don't mind' basis. Very refreshing in the motor trade. If I found myself browsing round a forecourt (remember when we could!) to pass an hour while SWMBO was buying a pair of shoes and the 'closer' approached it was my signal to leave!!

That's very desirable :) A friend had one in the naughties and I did a lot of spannering on it, including a head gasket...

It's just a big 205Gti and they drive majestically... Lovely inside with lots of wood and leather....

A proper gentleman's GT :)

And in the most desirable colour too :)

Robyn's first car was a 206... It was OK but not quite as good as its predecessor, the 205... Things looked up a little when the 207 came along... I had a 207 and quite liked it but again, it was no 205...

Same as I find with the Saxo and AX...

Result :) Well bought at that price I'd say... An a great way into Pug GTi ownership... You'd never get such a nice 1.9 205GTi or Gentry for that sort of money...

Surprised the Maestro went for such a small amount :o There's quite a following for them now and I guess they are not yet at their peak of desirability. I'm sure the value of good ones will only grow...

I have a sneaking liking for them...

The Maestro has a Hereford registration number.

As well as the facelifted LHD Austin (not Rover) Montego Turbodiesel we also had an 1.6 MG Maestro. This was quite a short run vehicle as it had the earlier R-series engine, soon superseded by the S-series engine. This Maestro had an interesting genesis as it started off as a LHD car and was converted to RHD.

The chap who did the conversion attempted to pull a flanker when registering it in the UK by trying to get it registered with a year newer registration than it deserved. The authorities then slapped it with a 'Q' registration as a result which depressed its value and made insurance more expensive. Luckily insurance was provided by my employers so didn't directly affect me.

When we bought the Maestro it also came with all bits removed from the LHD car. They're still in our loft and I must do something about them some day!
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

If anyone wants to watch Mathewsons Auction Live right now here's the link
MGB GT just sold. Ever popular, and of the everyday classics probably the best spare parts availability there is.
