Re: Snow good!
It has arrived in Hertford and some of the flakes are enormous - the oval plate on the shed peak is 10" tall and the "heart" just below it is a falling flake!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Re: Snow good!
We had a bit in Paggers but as usual it did not last and is almost all gone now... For a while it looked absolutely lovely...
We don't really get much weather in this part of the UK... It's mostly very benign Ideal for cycling and running...
This morning early it was freezing so hard my run was bordering on dangerous... The ice crystals of the hoar frost on every surface, including the roads and paths, looked very pretty glinting and sparking in the light of my head torch...
Robyn was on early duty at MK Hospital this morning and had quite a battle even gaining entry to her C1... It then took ages to defrost... She got to work on time despite all

Re: Snow good!
A trick I find that can help is to smear the door seals with Vaseline. Then the door is usually easier to open in very cold weather. The disadvantage is that you could get Vaseline on your clothes as you get in/out of the car.
I had to go into town today (well, I didn't HAVE to, but I needed a bit of shopping, and I used the time for exercise as well), and I REALLY appreciated the Magic Spikers I had on.

Re: Snow good!
If it gets like that Jim don't risk it, your health and our amusement are more important than sustaining your xxx day run sequence, besides you could leave it a while until it warms a bit and then run rather than risking a fall!!

Re: Snow good!
Here's another picture from this morning's dog walk.
Shouldn't really have been videoing the dog sliding around on the ice. So far it appears that the ice came off worst thank goodness. I should remember sometimes that I am not 10 years old anymore
Regards Neil

Re: Snow good!
I trust no serious damage was done, other than to the ice of course?

Re: Snow good!
What a joyful sight I saw this morning.
Had a problem with the ice-o-meter this morning couldn't break a fresh piece off, so there was one other measure of the coldness of the previous night.
For the first time i have ever seen, this morning there was family group, two 5/6 year olds, and older boy and the dad and they were playing ice hockey on one of the frozen floodwater ponds. After my lack of agility on the ice yesterday to see the smaller children especially whizzing round with their hockey sticks thoroughly enjoying themselves was just a total joy.
This was the best ice-o-meter I could muster from the very edge but there was no breaking the ice over the deeper water.

Re: Snow good!
I just sold my unused set of Easy Grip composite chains for the X7 as they won't fit this. Hopefully, whoever is delivering the new ones makes it up here or we will be stuck until the thaw! Bang goes the click & collect tomorrow I think.

I would like to be able to go out in the 308 and see just how good the Michelin Cross Climate+ tyres really are in the snow and whether they were worth paying extra for!

Re: Snow good!
I can vouch for those Paul.
I had them on the X7 and we have them on the older C3 currently. They won't help get you up any sort of hills on their own, but definitely provide more traction, given the tread pattern allows 'clawing' of the snow.
Without doubt the Michelin Easy grips will allow you to go up and down hills in snow - I've used them on all my past C5 and they are brilliant.

Re: Snow good!
I didn't dare risk it early this morning... The whole place was more like a skating rink Instead I waited until a bit of a thaw had set in around mid-afternoon and went out the for a short run, walking carefully where it was prudent to do so... Still loads of black ice about despite the air temperature being above freezing and bright sunshine...mickthemaverick wrote: ↑24 Jan 2021, 16:40If it gets like that Jim don't risk it, your health and our amusement are more important than sustaining your xxx day run sequence, besides you could leave it a while until it warms a bit and then run rather than risking a fall!!
An absolutely gorgeous afternoon and my streak remains intact at 133 days
I'll delay my run tomorrow morning too if there is any risk from black ice although the weather forecast is for several degrees above freezing.
Since March and knowing the state of our local hospital I'm very risk-averse...

The aforementioned ice hockey pitch this afternoon, with the skate marks and a lost glove, bad light stopped play!
