You are indeed correct after checking wiki, it is a 343 353 but it was also known as a Wartburg ........

I've had a look Mick, cant come up with anything exactly comaparable, but the nearest I got was Marx who was the biggest toymaker in the world in the 50's. With the wires dangling and no real room for a battery on the car I suspect the cars had a hand held battery pack sort of like this...

MarX did do a "friction drive" E-type S1 featured here on this page from oldclassiccar

https://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/plastictoycars.htm

think I have exhausted E-bay for similar items, so reckon a clue would be needed to find a similar one on the net!

Well they were manufactured under their own brand name from the early sixties but were taken over by Airfix in the eighties. The cars had a single U11, or C cell as we know it now, if I remember correctly. I also had 3 watercraft and 2 aircraft of the same make/range!! :-D

I was just about to jump in with Tri-ang as well who were taken over by Airfix. Bit of a chequered 80's for Airfix, effectively liquidated but the brand lives on with Hornby. There were links with Chad valley and Pallitoy too.

I would say Mick that unless you know differently I think the only two pictures of those toys on the internet are the ones you posted up this morning!

The other kit maker was the American Firm Revell, but as far as I can work out no link up there,

Airfix did acquire Meccano & Dinky too.

It would appear DDG triumphs over Google!! :-D I have found a fair bit, but then I did know the manufacturer to start with. Try a search on Medway Queen model. :-D

I notice, from that write up, that some of my models used the U11 as I remembered but the 2 cars I showed actually used U7's or AA's as we know them now!! :-D
