Absolutely and utterly identical to the one I had in the early to mid 90s :D Loved that car and it did us proud...

They did do a "first Generation" AX Electrique along with a Saxo Electrique.

Some gubbins about the Webasto Heater from the archives.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 22 Jan 2017, 09:45 The engine independant heater was a product of Webasto, who also did this type of thing for buses and boats.

Still going today from their founding in 1901...

https://www.webasto.com/gb/about-webast ... n/history/

and the internet as ever proves once again a tremendous receptacle of reference information....a comprehensive 50 odd page repair manual for the particular fuel-powered heaters fitted to the AX, Saxo, and Berlingo electriques :!: :-D

Yes I know you would have to take a crash-course in German to get the most out of it but there's always Google Translate!

Looking at one of the ebay links James supplied for AX cylinders I see some similar to yours and advertised as being for an AX and Renault 19.

I've cross-referenced this with the BoL and my official AX workshop manuals but I find no trace of this style of cylinger ever being used on the AX, not the small petrols at any rate...

So, they must be for the Renault!

Well found Neil, that's one looker of an AX. I particularly like the colour and paint finish :D Very similar to my first AX Salsa but a bit darker...

I reckon one of those would suit my daily needs very well... Perfect for my weekly run to Tesco ;) That's all my car now does whilst we are in Tier 4...

first Gen tech but probably more than enough even now for your daily needs. It had 51 miles range and 91km/hr top speed. NiCd Batteries and a DC Motor.

There is some gubbins on the AX Electrique in the spoiler. Pretty simple tech, and standard AX running gear.
Spoiler: show
20 Years of AX Electrique – Pioneering Electric Mobility

In December 1993, Citroën started the production of the Citroën AX Electrique, the first larger-scale produced electric vehicle.

Seven years after the introduction of the Citroën AX in 1986, the 100 percent electric-powered AX Electrique was perceived as some outstanding offering: no emissions, no engine or exhaust noise. The electric version of the compact car had a range of fifty miles and achieved a top speed of 91km/h.

The Citroen AX Electrique was equipped with a DC motor, the power being supplied from a battery. An electronic control unit registered , controlled and monitored the commands of the driver and the use of electrical energy. It also provided for charging the driving battery by the built-in charger and limited the vehicle’s performance when the power was about to decease or the temperature limits have been reached.

Steering, braking system and all other functions except the heating of the Citroën AX Electrique was derived from the conventional AX. Since the electric motor in the Citroën AX Electrique was very efficient and produced little waste heat, the use of additional fuel-based heating was necessary to provide convenience for the cold days.

The AX Electrique had neither a manual gearbox nor a neutral position or a clutch. Driving the electric car was very similar to that of a vehicle with automatic transmission. Releasing the accelerator pedal turned the efficient transmission engine automatically into a source for energy recuperation.

A conventional 12-volt battery powered all the accessories of the AX Electrique. It was loaded from the main transmission battery via a “converter” which has the task of an alternator. The driving battery consisted of a group of blocks for the storage of electrical energy, which are placed in three containers. These were nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries. Between the motor and battery there was a safety device: a circuit breaker unit whose job it was to provide or disconnect the electrical connection between the motor and the drive battery. The entire system had fuses and circuit breakers.

The traction battery, the electric motor and the electronic control unit integrated with the connection block are cooled by the air ventilation or by circulation of cooling fluid.

The Citroën AX Electrique has been produced in a total of 374 units from December 1993 to 1996.

The roadmap of electric vehicles continued in 1997 with the introduction of the Citroën Berlingo Electrique which was built in a quantity of 1749 vehicles. The Citroën Saxo Electrique was produced from 1996 to 2003 with a total of 2,174 units.

To confirm my diagnosis of the reason for Daffodil's non-operational rear brakes I removed one of the wheel cylinders today...

Seized absolutely solid  Even a hammer and punch won't move the pistons!
wheelcylinder.jpg
They are allegedly only 4 years old  Brake fluid replaced at the same time according to an invoice...

The brake fluid is very badly contaminated... As I flush more it's getting more and more purple and my suspicion grows that DOT5 was used to top-up and it's not done any good... It started off black and full of sediment, then brown and now distinctly purple!

New wheel cylinders are on their way and should arrive on Wednesday :) I've also procured another litre of DOT4 fluid to enable a thorough flush...

I use a grease nipple in the pipe hole and a side lever grease gun to shift those seized pistons.
