XSARA 2003 - Driver's Electric Window Not Working!

Post by chigurhm »

Hi,

I am hoping for a Christmas miracle here.

I put the driver's electric window down today and it will not go back up.

I have tested the wires (4: beige, blue, yellow & green and green) there is voltage in the beige and the green when the button is pressed up and down. I'm not sure what the 4 wires are for, Power for Up, unsure for blue, Earth and Power for down?

I have tried running a wire direct from the battery, negative to yellow and green and positive to beige and green separatetly.

Is there a way to manually raise the glass, as the car is on my drive with the window fully open.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I just checked the passenger's window (which is shut) and I can hear the motor engage but the glass does not move - this worked earlier today.

I don't know the correct fuse location but I guess they are on the same fuse and it's too dark now.

Fise 13/14 30A is blown and changed this but it still didn't work.

The mystery continues..

You'll probably find it is the window regulator wire that has snapped. Over time water gets in from the window seals and gets onto the wires on the regulator

The motor reels in or lets out the wire which raises or lowers the regulator which in turn raises or lowers the window. Over the years the water that gets on the wires and rusts. Then one day out of the blue it just snaps when you try to raise or lower it. This is why you can hear the motor run without the window moving.

You'll need to remove the door card after removing the various trim as needed. You will likely need to drill out the rivets of the old regulator to remove it before fitting a the glass into a new one.

Regulators that come with the wire can be bought quite cheaply.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the information.
The driver's window opened today but I could raise it later in the day.
The passenger's window worked fine but then later - after checking fuses etc, didn't not work - but the motor could be heard.

I want to rule out other potential faults before I remove the regulator but it is weird that both have stopped working on the same day, with different issues. The door card is removed and I have access and I have checked the plug, as I tried to put 12V direct from the battery to the motor.

Is it possible to lift the glass (as the driver's window is down still) manually?

Do you know which fuse is for the electric windows, I have looked online but can't find one that matches my layout. F1-28 and R1-R4.

Thanks.

The window is held in place by the regulator, so depending on how much window is exposed, you may be able to grab both sides of the window with both hands and try lifting it up temporarily.

Pop your VIN up (automatically masked from public view) and I'll get back to you re the fuses ASAP.

The motor will still work when the wire has snapped, but of course without the wire it can't move the regulator 'scissors' up or down.

My passenger one went a few weeks ago on my C5. We've had torrential rain here for months now non stop almost.

If (or, more likely, WHEN) you find the wire has snapped (and replaced it) it could be a good idea to then put some waterproof grease (of a decent quality) over the cable to protect it from rusting in the future. I believe others on the Forum have done this when they have had to replace the wire or complete regulator. I DON'T know what is the best grease to use.

Hi Razor,

Thanks for the information, the issue I have at the moment is the window is fully down.

Hi,

When I purchased the car the window didn't work, and an auto-electrician added the earth as labeled 1 on the photo below.

Image

I have added power (directly from the battery to the two pins (beige and green) location 2 that registered 14V when I checked the switch - nothing happens.

Should the motor make a noise if the wire has snapped?

I have watched a few videos on Youtube and the window always up when worked on, is it possible to raise the glass another way?

Thanks.

The Front Electric Window Motor Fuse is F14 30A in the front Passenger Compartment Fusebox - but if you are getting a sound from the motor it won't be the fuse. There is only one.

Thanks Marc, I will check the fuse. The drivers motor doesn't make a noise., But the passengers window works so I guess it can't be the fuse.

Hi Marc,

Do you have a copy of the fuse box and references?

There was a blown 30A fuse in 13 or 14 (I can't remember which one I changed the other day). I removed the fuse from 14 and the passenger's window still works.

Thanks

The fuse box is on the driver's side, is there one in the passenger side too?

I just meant passenger compartment as 'inside the car' as we get a lot of international members here. Driver's side is where it will be - same as the Xsara Picasso on a RHD.
