Hello Gents,
New one here.
I am experiencing extremely odd case of electronics "failure" :
My motorised boot could be only opened from remote key fob, obviously it can be done when engine is not running, thus I have no option to get access to my stuff in the boot , when having a short stop, I always have to stop the engine. not comfy, though.
When the tailgate button is being pressed I get two short beeps, which eventually signalises that central lock is being engaged / or the car is running and the driver door is closed ( sort of safety feature ). However, if I open the tailgate via remote and let it lift , both buttons inside red and the outside tailgate button are further functional - pressing one or another makes the tailgate go down/up and lock up eventually if you do not interfere.
Any ideas where I should dig ?
Thanks in advance,
Dany

Re: C5 X7 Tourer Tailgate won`t open
A 2 beep fault suggests it is in a backup mode.
Fault: Motorised tailgate linear potentiometer. The motorised tailgate ECU commands the motorised tailgate to move, then stops the movement and emits a sound alert (2 beeps), the mechanism is declutched.
You would need to get it diagnosed with Diagbox to find out the specific fault code and I might then be able to advise you what it is not happy about.

Re: C5 X7 Tourer Tailgate won`t open
Hi Marc,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
No DTC at all, I thought there might be some safety algorithm in BSI configuration that should be de-activated. Maybe something alarm related: like do not allow tailgate being opened form outside?
The lock itself doesn`t de-clutch, tailgate simply stays locked as opposed to not being lifted by the motorised unit.

There are a load of scenarios where it can go into a backup mode - and not all code readers will be able to read all the ECUs if you are using a generic code reader - specifically the constructor-specific codes.
If you are using Diagbox then, I would just leave it for now - but a common issue with these is the economy mode kicking in resulting in non-operation of the tailgate on occasion.
I did a post on this for those especially with Tourer versions of the X7 to hand the energy management back to the BSI instead of the BCSU:

Re: C5 X7 Tourer Tailgate won`t open
unfortunately , I am no authorised to open that link.
indeed, I am using Lexia and diagbox 7.57, can acces all dealer specific diagnostic menus.
Further it has nothing to do with economy mode, which usually affects motorised lifting mechanism only ( according to my experience ) , as I might repeat - the lock stays closed when I press outside tailgate button, system returns in double biep, then I press the key fob - "open tailgate" and everything starts moving as per normal.
Any ideas?

Ok, so if the outside tailgate switch is not operating, then you may have an issue with the wiring. These can have issues with breaks in the wiring as the harness enters the tailgate from the top rear left.

Re: C5 X7 Tourer Tailgate won`t open
Marc,
How would you explain double beep , if the switch is not operating ?
I would highly appreciate a list of conditions / scenarios, that have to be met in order to trigger the lock with outside switch and/or when double beep occurs.
Personally I am thinking about BSI reset or an update, current FW has this accidental tailgate opening issue - when you pres the button on remote, while it is in your pocket... if you know what I mean...
Cheers,
Dany

Re: C5 X7 Tourer Tailgate won`t open
i Can’t tell from here of course, but if you are saying the electronic lock is not working on the external tailgate switch then it looks electrical.
There’s another thread here with the 2 beeps/

Re: C5 X7 Tourer Tailgate won`t open
Unfortunately, this is not the case either...
Are there any troubleshooting procedures in Diagbox, that I might not know about ?
I have looked up motorised boot live data, but this says nothing about lock dis-engagement at all.
Regardless of the tailgate position it can move up down, while operated with any of inside/outside switches when lock is disengaged, as soon as you have it locked normally ( or with a shaft screwdriver ) it stops responding to neither. Operation is possible via remote only.
