Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
I've never been fond of Vauxhalls so I am not surprised I got that wrong, every day's a school day I thought the VX4/90 came out with the Ventora shape, whatever that was labelled!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
I liked the Velox and Cresta, very nice smooth cars with a straight 6 GM engine. 2262cc but only 60.5 bhp I seem to remember, bags of torque though.
A friend of mine had a Chevy, very rare here in the '50's, the engine was almost identical to the vauxhalls. The PA Cresta created quite a storm when it was released in 57-58 looked like nothing else that had been see here before, I had two of them, one of the first a '57 with the 3 piece rear window and tail fins, then a 1960 which was toned down a bit and had a one piece rear window. It was pink when I bought it, had it resprayed. I paid the princely sum of 410 pounds for it in about 1960.

The mustardy coloured one is lovely. I think the mini was plastic we couldn't afford it in the 60's

Whilst going through my late father-in-laws book collection today, I came across theseNewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑06 Dec 2020, 21:58 The most thumbed through of mine was the Observer's book of birds then Birds eggs, still have both today.
Wiki has a decent piece about them, and pretty much like the I-Spy books encouraged appreciation and interest in all sorts of subject areas, an education which I enjoyed as a youngster and carry with me today.

Probably my most read book as a kid was "Sixty tested wireless circuits" by F J Camm.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
Oh yes! You bet Happily, I have a copy of the WSR guide on the right in my collection...
And I love the book on the Class 50 'Hoovers' I have special memories and fondness of those as I travelled behind them many times in the 70s and 80s between London Waterloo and Yeovil Junction...
They are awesome locomotives... GB RailFreight still have two very immaculate examples in service for hauling mainline heritage trains and tailing 'kettles' (steam locomotives) on some heritage services... Network Fail like to have two locomotives on trains in case one fails...
The Class 50, like the Class 37 have really stood the test of time although they are a bit prone to main generator flashover when pushed hard...

There were were a couple of Jim's motorised bicycles on Mathewsons auction yesterday, one engine in the wheel the other friction drive to the front wheel. I wasted far to much time on there.

I am on the lookout for a new socket set and I had the idea I'd like a speed brace. Old school I know but it's surprisingly hard to get a new socket set with a speed brace. Here's one set for less than the price of a pot of tea.

Amazing. I paid 17 pounds 10 shillings for my first Elora set, that was about my weeks wages at the time.
