Peugeot 308 P9 posted service light for low level dpf fluid (eolys) just after filling up with diesel. From the Citroen posts it appears that I can drive the car until the dpf fills up. I can easily refill the eolys, but need to get access to Diagbox to reset counter. I'm in the process of purchasing diagbox + interface lead, but that may take a bit of time.
Is the eolys injected into the fuel tank? If so can I temporarily use another additive poured into the tank to allow the dpf to regenerate, or will the eolys system keep injecting for a short time further?

Hi and welcome.

No - do not manually put anything into the fuel tank. Eolys has to be metered out specifically in the correct amounts according to the amount of fuel added and that is the job of the additive pump controlled by the engine ECU. You must also never us any other type of additive except for the correct one as per your engine and build date which we can advise on if you put your VIN up here.

If the low fluid warning has come on, it means that there is insufficient additive fluid remaining to cover the mileage from now until your next scheduled service. So don't leave it too long before topping up.

If you do leave it too long, the system will stop assisted regeneration and that can lead to rapid filter clogging. Clogging at anything over 70% can result in the system being unable to regenerate (forced or otherwise). The amount of fluid remaining is also estimated and not measured, so another reason why you should get it done sooner rather than later.

Although checking the quantity required and type would be very helpful, thanks. You must have access to a great database!

On the side of the tank is a label "BVH2 Fuel additive dosing tank 1,07". The 1,07 is in LARGE numbers, so I just assumed that it would be a 1 litre top-up. I would have ordered that as I don't want to buy and store more than I need, BUT if 1 litre did not cause an overflow, then I won't know that it is full!!

The VIN is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff], 2015 Peugeot 308SW diesel 1.6 Blue HDi 120

So I would suggest when undertaking an additive filling session that you fill the tank up completely as you generally reset the additive counter when you have done this. Adding a litre only is probably not a good idea - but if you are not sure on the capacity of the reservoir (they are generally 3lt - but may be less), then purchase several 1lt containers and that way you can use what you need to top it up without wasting any - as this stuff does not keep once opened.

I have now filled-up, tank took about 1.6lt.
I am a little puzzled, the tank said 1.07, which I had previously assumed to mean 1.07lt. I have since been using an app "FAP Citroen/Peugeot ELM327 OBD2" for my phone to monitor the state of the dpf. This gives data such as level of cinders, soot, miles from last regen, dpf temp,... but it also gives:
Volume of additive reservoir (1070ml) and volume of additive in reservoir (146ml).
So if I believe the program and the tank label at 1070ml, how can I put in about 1600ml? I know that the 146ml is an estimate, so I could assume that it is totally empty, but that leads me to think I have put in about 0.5lt too much.
Is this possible, can it be overfilled (will this damage anything), or due you think that the FAP app is wrong? Note that the car was approximately level when filled.

1) You can't overfill the tank, so that's OK.
2) The amounts of additive in the tank are only estimated - there is no physical level measurement there. So when you top it up, the system resets its estimations but remembers the total cumulative amount of Cerine deposits that have been input into the filter that cannot be burned off during the life of the DPF.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the information. On the dpf the FAP app shows the fault dpf filter worn, seems to be set for 120 000 miles, so life left 0miles as car is just over 120k. Note last 10 regens average 596 miles, and 433 miles from last regen the max FAP pressure was 119mbar. So I don't think it is too bad.
So started looking into getting the dpf cleaned or replaced. Looking at the dpf part of the filter (not the cat) there are plenty of filters on Ebay & other suppliers. These are spec'd as Euro 4 or 5. Mine is a Euro 6 so would you please find out the part number for my car (VIN on earlier message) and let me know if it is different to the Euro 4/5. Note that i have an impression that the cat is different but maybe not the dpf part - or wishful thinking. Also happy to have made the donation for such a useful site.

Hi Tom, no problems - before you do anything - did I mention that your vehicle is being flagged up as subject to an after sales campaign? If I haven't mentioned it already, do ring the dealer up and provide your VIN to them - they will tell you what the work involves, but it will be free of charge.

As for the info you wanted:

The particle filter is designed for the mileage you state - but can't factor in the specific driving conditions, so is an average scenario I suspect. You may well get more life out of it yet - just keep an eye out on the 'Risk of Clogging' message.

As for the parts:

The particle filter is item (20)

You have several options from Peugeot - an OEM original filter or an exchange version, so I'll list both with prices for you:

Peugeot New DPF: 1611904280 £969.14
Peugeot Exchange DPF: 1611904780 £798.61

Both these have a refundable surcharge when they receive your old one back of £186.

All prices from Peugeot, correct as at time of this post.

Thanks again, that was fast.

The diagram is disappointing, it looks like the filter can't be split for cleaning, but I'll have a peer under the heatshield in daylight just in case...

There is one recall for software due to NOx, was going to take it in after Covid, but it has carried on much longer than I thought.

Ooops, looking at the wrong part. I thought part 10 would be the dpf, not part 20!

No problem. It may be related to the SCR, but from experience of other members with this engine, it may be injector-related, so I would still give them a call as soon as you are able.

Part (20) is where the SCR takes place and also houses the DPF, here's a quick diagram :-D :

Thanks for that, I had wondered what happened to the add blue. Interesting about the after sales campaign, I will get the car booked-in and see what they say.

I had the local friendly garage try to reset the additive counter today with their generic tool, but no surprise it didn't manage to read it. They had done it on a Ford which they thought was similar, but it only found the odd ecu. As I like to do as much maintenance as possible I think it is time to invest in Lexia/Diabox.
