Timing Belt Failure on a 2013 Peugeot Partner 1.6 HDI

Post by cmccormack »

Hi, recently bought a 2013 Peugeot Partner 1.6 HDI with a timing belt failure, the belt had not actually snapped but had only sheared a small number of teeth off of the belt (engine is on 132000 miles so could be the original belt). However I bought this van cheap in the hope that I would get away with fitting a new timing belt and waterpump kit. Once I had timed the engine (crankshaft and camshaft were both pinned in the slots) I tried firing the van up but it would only turn over and give no signs of firing. The rocker cover was taken off to check the rockers themselves as I know they are designed to break if there is a failure with the timing belt but all rockers were there and intact. I then double checked and triple checked the engine timing (also had it plugged on to a diagnostic machine which was saying the crank and cam timing was ok and they were in sync with eachother when cranking the engine over). I have now got to the stage were I have removed the cylinder head in the hope that there would be possible damage to the valves or pistons but everything is ok and there is not a single mark on either. Can anyone shed some light on this or possibly give me any information as to what the problem could be or if there is anything I could be doing wrong.

Thanks

Hi, and :welc: to the forum. I personally cannot offer you any advise, other to wait until somebody with knowledge of these engines comes along to help.

Before removing the cylinder head, the compression should have been measured so that they would know if there was any damage. Since the cylinder head has been removed, it should definitely be taken for inspection. Maybe the problem with the time belt is not the only one. Since the cylinder head has been removed, turn it over and pour petrol or diesel on the valves, if it leaks quickly, it means that the valves are leaking and this can be a problem. Were there any errors stored when checking it for diagnostics?

I believe that these engines can be very difficult to start if they have been sitting for a long time. Sometimes they need a tow start.

You should also consider the possibility that the belt stripped due seizure of a camshaft driven pump.

I'm sure I remember someone having trouble with a belt failure on the 14 version of this engine, and eventually working out that the cam lobes were only pressed on, and the belt failure had caused some of the lobes to spin on the cam shaft.

Would anyone be able to help me out with finding the torque settings for the cylinder head? I have tried a google search but cannot seem to get a common answer. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Values from the program tolerance data-20Nm 40Nm 260'.I think it should go in 4 phases 20,40,130 '130'.There is a possibility that the head gasket is accompanied by instructions for tightening torque.
