C5 X7 mkIII 3.0hdi Exclusive Tourer Windscreen Washer Wiring info?

Post by Jay-Bruce »

Afternoon all,

Sorry to start a new thread, but I couldn't find anything on this using forum search... If there is a thread about this already please accept my apologies and point me in the direction of the other thread. I'm usually pretty self sufficient, give me access to couple of PDF's and I find things for myself, but I still haven't found any good documentation for the C5, so I get extra shy about asking for these things.

Anyways, our X7 Tourer has developed a fault whereby the washer pump is not working. I started off by changing the fuse (fuse #3 - 10a - in engine bay fuse box), then fitted a new pump, and still no washer pump whir. The wipers move when you operate the wash function on the stock, and the fuse is good, so I'm guessing its a wiring issue between the relay(s) and the pump. The pump is one of those single pumps with twin outlets whereby polarity is reversed to switch from front to rear windscreen. You know the ones that have a little rubber shuttle in the outlet, and if the pump spins clockwise the shuttle closes over outlet A and allows fluid to go through outlet B, but spin it counter clockwise and the shuttle is moved across to cover outlet B and permit the flow of fluid from outlet A and the changeover to switch from front to rear windscreen happens when the polarity of the power to the pump is reversed.

Consequently I'm presuming it's going to be a relay or two that controls the power and polarity, but I have no idea which relay(s), or where the wiring is, or colours of wires etc, so I was wondering if anyone could hook me up with the relevant sections of the wiring diagrams and info on what controls the washer motor?

Thanks in advance / Jay

There aren't any - it will likely be the washer pump that has the motor in it. You should test it independently first, but this is almost certainly where your problem will be. Just replace it.

I should have said that any relays are non user serviceable as they will be inside the engine fusebox, but my money is on the reservoir / pump.

Yes, pop your VIN up for me (auto masked from public view) and I'll put you something up so I can get the correct diagram for your build date.

Hello and thank's for a fantastic Citroën forum and for the accsess !

I have the same error on my X7. I have tested the pump independently and it works. There is no power to the pump and fuse is ok. Could it be windshield wiper lever or BSI?
Please help !
Thanks in advance

The front and rear washer control is via the engine fusebox, through 2 internal relays R10 for the Rear Wash and R9 for the Front Wash. So if the reversible pump is working via an independent supply, then it will either be the electrical connection from the pump to the engine fusebox (wiring or pin connections), Fuse F3 in the engine Fuse Box, the Relays internal to the engine fusebox - (so realistically the engine fuse box).

If you have Xenon directional headlamps, then check the headlamp wash Fuse F4 in the engine Fuse Box too.

Hey Marc ! Many Thanks.
Someone on the forum who can help with wire numbers/colours from the two relays R10/R9 in the fuse box, direction towards the flush pump ?

There is a constant current on the fuse (with or without ignition on). Will try to search for wire breakage before I change fuse box.

Pop your VIN up Geir, and I'll put a diagram up for you. The relays are internal to the fusebox, but the diagram will show the control wires.

Ok, so colours won't help as Citroen on this circuit can use any colour (marked as non-descript), so focus on the following pins and connectors as the wiring colours will vary:

5115: front/rear wash-wipe pump

Engine Fuse Box

28 Pin Brown Wiring Plug
Wire 510: windscreen wash pump control on Pin 2 to Pin 2 on Wash Pump
Wire 530: rear screen wash pump control on Pin 5 to Pin 1 on Wash Pump

Marc, I measure grounding on both wires 510/530 with ignition on or off. Could it be caused by a short circuit in the relay or a damaged wire lying against the chassis?

You'd have to trace the wires back really to physically check. MC12 appears to be the main Earth - here is a diagram with the earth location that might help you (see section E).

That seems normal, both sides of the pump are connected to ground, except when the pump is operating, when one side is connected to +12V.
