Notification email delivery issues

We are currently having problems with delivery of a small percentage of notification emails.

The problem appears to be in the external email delivery service that we currently use.

I will give an update when the problem is better understood.

It is only about 1% of notification emails failing, but some of the diagnostic messages are a bit bizarre. A similar thing was happening a couple of weeks ago, but it fixed itself then without intervention.

I have adjusted a setting which may be relevant, and we will see what happens.

Or so you thought... At least half of the bounced notifications are addressed to you, but they are bouncing before delivery is attempted, so (apparently) nothing to do with your email system.

I don't compare mine to the postings but they do seem to be coming through - one just came in from this very thread.

It seems that the issues is fixed.

It was due to problems with a couple of users' email configuration and one external email service which has a very sensitive spam filter.
